Roundabout Theatre Company recently announced that Everyday Rapture, starring Sherie Rene Scott, will open at the American Airlines Theatre in place of the indefinitely postponed Lips Together, Teeth Apart. The critically acclaimed musical by Dick Scanlan & Sherie Rene Scott is directed by Michael Mayer. In anticipation of its opening on April 29, 2010, Scanlan and Scott introduce the production in the clip below!
Everyday Rapture will begin performances on April 19th, 2010 and open officially on April 29th, 2010 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway. This is a limited engagement through July 11th, 2010.
Everyday Rapture will be the final production of Roundabout Theatre Company's 2009-2010 season.
Everyday Rapture is the story of a young woman's psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future. Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York (with a disturbing detour through YouTube). Everyday Rapture also features songs made famous by David Byrne, Roberta Flack, Mister Rogers, The Supremes, Tom Waits, U2 and Judy Garland.
The artistic team includes: Choreography by Michele Lynch, orchestrations & arrangements by Tom Kitt, music supervision by Michael Rafter and music direction by Marco Paguia. The design team includes Christine Jones (Sets), Tom Broecker (Costumes), Kevin Adams (Lights), Brian Ronan (Sound) and Darrel Maloney (Projections).
Everyday Rapture premiered at Second Stage on May 3rd, 2009. Due to unanimous critical acclaim, the production was extended twice beyond its limited engagement.
Michael Mayer has directed the following productions at the Roundabout: After the Fall (2004), An Almost Holy Picture (2002), Uncle Vanya (2000), The Lion In Winter (1999), A View From The Bridge (1997), Side Man (1998).
