The Peterbrough Players announced today that they will be giving full support behind #GivingTuesday, a global initiative to promote charitable giving during the holidays. This year the date is set for December 1st, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving as well as the shopping days "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday." The Players will post Facebook and Twitter messages and send out email that will encourage people to use this special Tuesday as a day to give personal time or financial support to their favorite local, national or global charities, including the Players.

#GivingTuesday was inaugurated in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, a cultural center based in New York City. Since then, it has become a global focal point day during the holidays to think about giving back to organizations and individuals who make a difference in our communities. It quickly became become a social media phenomenon through the hashtag #GivingTuesday. There are now over 30,000 #GivingTuesday partners, including small business, non-profits, government agencies and major corporations.

The Peterborough Players has utilized #GivingTuesday since its inaugural year and continues to use it as a platform to ask for year-end giving to the non-profit theatre's operations and intern program as well as gain awareness for giving back to the community.
