Denver-area author Travis Heermann has assembled an all-star roster for a new genre fiction anthology, Cars, Cards & Carbines. On Tuesday, November 19, 2013, he launched a crowd-funding campaign via Kickstarter to fund the publication. If funding is successful, the anthology will be released as an e-book, a trade paperback, and a limited edition hardcover.

"Cars, Cards & Carbines grew from a desire to see more of the kind of stories that set my little writer brain on fire as a kid," Heermann says. "But nowadays I want to merge that fire and fun with adult sensibilities, complex themes, and sheer literary awesomeness. We think readers will agree that our roster of authors is capable of pulling that off." However, the Kickstarter campaign runs until December 19, 2013, "so the clock is ticking."

This anthology was originally conceived as "Mad Max meets Maverick and The Wild, Wild West (the TV series, not the awful film)," Heermann says, but he wants the writers to take that general concept and run with it, stretching the boundaries of the central themes without restrictions on genre.

Lead authors on this project are:

  • Mario Acevedo - Denver-area author of the bestselling Felix Gomez detective-vampire series from HarperCollins.
  • E.C. Ambrose - Author of Elisha Barber, the first of "The Dark Apostle" historical fantasy series about medieval surgery.

  • Nancy Holder - Five-time Bram Stoker Award-winner and New York Times bestselling author of approximately 80 novels and more than 200 short stories, essays, and articles.
  • D.B. Jackson - Author of the Thieftaker Chronicles, a blend of urban fantasy, mystery, and historical fiction.
  • Mur Lafferty - Author and a pioneering podcaster, winner of the 2013 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Science Fiction Writer. Her book, The Shambling Guide to New York City, is on sale from Orbit.
