A by-invitation-only reading of Lempicka, a musical commissioned by Yale Rep and New Dramatists, about the tumultuous life of art deco artist Tamara de Lempicka, will be presented June 15 in Manhattan.

The cast will be headed by Julia Murney (The Wild Party), in the title role with Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday), Gabrielle Stravelli, Valerie Wright (Steel Pier), Robert Emmet Lunney, Izzy Hanson-Johnson (Billy Elliot), Steven Rattazzi, Erin Bennett, Ato Blankson-Wood (Hair), Kevin Massey (Memphis), Rhyn McLemore, Joy Radish, Nicolette Robinson (Perfect Couples), and Ben Roseberry.

Griffin Matthews directs with musical direction by Ian Axness.

Lempicka is a Working Title for the new musical with book and lyrics by New Dramatists resident Carson Kreitzer and music by Richard Rodgers Award winning composer Matt Gould.

The new musical, press note state, "is set around the erratic artist’s life in Paris between the wars. Using raw emotional language and a contemporary musical palette, Lempicka explores the life of a struggling artist hell bent on carving her undying mark on the worlds of art and fashion in the midst of social upheaval and sexual transformation."
