Julia Breanetta Simpson Presents 'Harlem on My Mind' in Concert,' 2/8

In celebration of Black History Month, Actors Equity Association's Equal Employment Opportunity Committee (EEO) will present a free solo performance by popular Cabaret chanteuse Julia Breanetta Simpson. HARLEM ON MY MIND will be presented on Monday, February 8, 2010 at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, New York City. Open to the public, the free event will have a reception from 6 p.m. to 7p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

HARLEM ON MY MIND is a one woman musical journey through the dynamic time in history known as the Harlem Renaissance. Created and performed by Ms. Simpson, and directed by Shaunelle Perry, HARLEM ON MY MIND explores the music of such greats as Duke Ellington, Thomas "Fats" Waller, Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters and others.

Julia Breanetta Simpson has appeared in regional productions such as TIN TYPES, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', DREAMGIRLS, and DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Her touring credits include FREEDOM TRAIN, ONE MO' TIME, PURLIE, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' and FOR COLORED GIRLS.., among others. She originated the role of Hennie in the world premiere of WHEN THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS. A long time advocate of equal rights, diversity and non-traditional casting, Ms. Simpson is a nationally elected Councillor of Actors' Equity Association and is the co-chair of the Union's EEO committee.

HARLEM ON MY MIND will play at 7:30pm on February 8th. Tickets for the event are free and the production is open to the public. The performance will take place at New World Stages.
