Broadway Vet Robert LuPone Stars in THE VIOLIN at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) is thrilled to welcome the world premiere of THE VIOLIN, written by Dan McCormick and directed by Joseph Discher. Produced by The Directors Company in association with ShadowCatcher Entertainment, THE VIOLIN begins performances on Thursday, September 7 for a limited engagement through Saturday, October 14. Press Opening is Tuesday, September 19 at 7 PM.

The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7 PM; Friday at 8 PM; Saturday at 2 PM & 8 PM; and Sunday at 3 PM & 7 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Single tickets are $25 - $70 ($25 - $49.50 for 59E59 Members). Broadway veteran actors Robert LuPone (Broadway's True West, One Thousand Clowns, the original cast of A Chorus Line) and Peter Bradbury (Broadway's King Charles III, Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Cherry Orchard) star as Gio and Bobby, respectively, in a limited engagement of the world premiere of THE VIOLIN. Both actors make their 59E59 debut. The role of Terry will be announced shortly.

Bobby and Terry, two hapless brothers, along with Gio, an elderly tailor, find a priceless 1710 Stradivarius violin in the back of a taxicab. Has Lady Luck finally smiled down on them? A surprising tale about fate, friendship, and the absolute cost of happiness.

The design team includes Harry Feiner (scenic design); Michael McDonald (costume design); and Michael Adelson (lighting design). The Production Stage Manager is Rose Riccardi. Darren Bagert and Adam Hess serve as Executive Producers.

Dan McCormick (playwright) is a playwright, actor and singer-songwriter. Most recently, his two-character play Homeless and How We Got That Way was produced at The Detroit Repertory Theatre and he was also awarded a $25,000 Grant from The Arcus Foundation for its NYC Premiere with Roust Theatre Company. His three-character play The Morons was nominated for Best Production in Origin Theatre's First Irish Festival and he has been a Finalist in The Samuel French Festival. Dan has numerous new plays, with several produced, work-shopped and staged-read throughout the country; most notably his award winning 9/11 play On The Day and The Days That Followed was accepted into the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum's Artists Registry and has been performed in universities, high schools and middle schools in New York, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Georgia. He is a member of The Actors Studio Playwrights and Directors Workshop as a playwright. As an actor he is a member SAG-AFTRA, Actors Equity and New Jersey Repertory Company. As a singer-songwriter he is a member of ASCAP and The Recording Academy and is proud to have made the Grammy Award Entry Ballot for his two CD's Edge of America Bound and Broadway Lights.

Joseph Discher (director) is thrilled to return to 59E59, where he direcTed Butler last summer. Other directing credits include regional productions of Butler at Barrington Stage Company and Majestic Theater, as well as the world premiere at New Jersey Repertory Company; Antony and Cleopatra (Orlando Shakespeare Theater); A Moon for the Misbegotten (Playhouse on Park); A Child's Christmas in Wales, The Diary of Anne Frank, Wittenberg, Our Town, Henry IV (Part One), To Kill A Mockingbird, Arms and the Man, The Grapes of Wrath, The Tempest, Amadeus, The Play's the Thing, Cymbeline, Galileo, Of Mice and Men, A Midwinter Night's Dream, The Fantasticks, Twelfth Night, Scapin, Travels With My Aunt, Much Ado About Nothing, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Theatre of NJ); One Man Two Guvnors (Florida Studio Theater); The Weir, Red and As You Like It (Theatreworks); Julius Caesar (Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis). He has taught and lectured on Shakespeare at Stella Adler Conservatory, Actor's Connection and The Neighborhood Playhouse and Rutgers University.
