he Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) is looking for actors to take part in a new program called the Playwright's Playground. It is designed for playwrights to hear cold readings of scenes from their works in progress and for actors to become acquainted with the work of emerging writers while they take an important role in the creation of new plays.

The next Playground session will be on Monday, January 14th, from 7 pm - 10 pm at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Center on 165th Street and Broadway. All actors must arrive at 6:30 and check in with either Debra Cardona or her assistant Pia Wilson in order to be cast in a scene. Because so many actors are interested in participating, there is no guarantee that you will be cast each time, but we will do our best to accommodate you. There are some incredible playwrights lined up, and it is important to us that a truly diverse group of artists are a part of this endeavor.

If you are interested in participating, all you need do is arrive at 6:30 on a Playwright's Playground Monday.

One Monday of each month will be designated as Playwright's Playground Mondays. Interested playwrights may submit a 10- to 12-page scene from a work in progress, and, if chosen to participate, a Monday will be assigned to them. Up to five playwrights will be featured at each Playground. The night of the Playground, CTH will provide copies of the scenes and cast actors to read from those attending the Playground. (NOTE: full plays are not read at the Playground, only 10-12 page scenes)
