Armida at Lisner Auditorium

Haydn's Armida, an opera seria set during the era of the Crusades, focuses on the psychological conflict between love and duty in a time of war. It retells the story of Torquato Tasso's Renaissance poem Jerusalem Delivered, in which the knight Rinaldo is lured into temptation by the powerful sorceress Armida. Soprano Lauren Snouffer stars in the title role, with tenor Fran Daniel Laucerica as Rinaldo and soprano Shannon Crowley as Zelmira. The Washington Concert Opera Orchestra performs under Artistic Director Antony Walker.
