Cabrillo Music Theatre Reaches Out To Homeless Animals Through Its Production Of CATS

Carole W. Nussbaum, President and Chief Executive Officer, of Cabrillo Music Theatre, Ovation Award Winner, announces the launch of its Animal Rescue Program, as a tribute to Cabrillo's upcoming production of Rodger and Hammerstein's CATS.

Cabrillo's Animal Rescue Program will help abused, homeless, and abandoned dogs and cats. Cabrillo has designated the profits from the sale of CATS merchandise to the five Animal Rescue Missions listed below. In addition, Cabrillo will give two (2) complimentary Orchestra tickets to an upcoming show in its 2009-2010 Season to all patrons adopting a homeless animal from one of the five Animal Rescue Missions from now through the final performance of CATS (August 2, 2009).

Cabrillo's newest OUTREACH effort accentuates its production of CATS, which features Andrew Lloyd Webber's magical score and T.S. Eliot's world famous poems about a neighborhood of cats whose individual stories come alive in song and dance. Cabrillo's Animal Rescue Program "is devoted to these wondrous creatures by increasing awareness for the rescue missions serving them," notes Nussbaum. "An increasing number of animals are being displaced and neglected as a result of the economic recession. They are the silent victims of this challenging economic time," remarks Nussbaum. Numerous worthy and commendable animal rescue organizations submitted applications to Cabrillo for consideration. The five missions selected are B.A.R.K., Cat Connection, Karma Rescue, L.I.F.E. Animal Rescue, and Southern California Dachshund Rescue.

To prime the Animal Rescue Program, Nussbaum has adopted five year old "Albert Einstein," an abandoned dachshund from Southern California Dachshund Rescue (SCDR). Nicknamed "Ainy" (pronounced eye-knee), he was rescued by SCDR from a shelter where he was sick, paralyzed, and scheduled for euthanasia. With medication, physical therapy, and lots of TLC, Albert has now recovered. "Albert has quickly become a beloved member of my family and Cabrillo's family. He is the sweetest little guy who has overcome much adversity. His story is inspiring to us all." Meet Albert at Cabrillo's upcoming performances of CATS.

ABOUT THE "ANIMAL RESCUE ANGELS"

B.A.R.K.: B.A.R.K., the Basic Alliance for the Rescue of K-9s, has been rescuing dogs in Ventura and Los Angeles County for over 15 years. They specialize in small dogs such as terriers and Chihuahuas. As they have no kennel facilities, their animals are in foster homes, becoming part of someone's family until they find a home of their own. B.A.R.K. is based in Simi Valley, CA.

CAT CONNECTION: Cat Connection is a non-profit, 501(c) (3), cat and dog rescue organization founded in 1996. L.I.F.E. ANIMAL RESCUE: Since 1992, L.I.F.E. (Living Is For Everyone) Animal Rescue has brought new life to more than 5,000 animals. From the last days at the shelter, to starvation and injuries on the street, L.I.F.E. has turned tragedy into triumph.
