Winner of the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, ‘Night, Mother is a raw and deeply moving exploration of family, control, and the quiet despair that hides behind everyday life. The play unfolds over the course of one evening as Jessie Cates calmly informs her mother, Thelma, that she intends to end her life before the night is over. What follows is an unflinching, hour-by-hour conversation between mother and daughter: one filled with love, regret, honesty, and heartbreaking humor.

With its powerful dialogue and emotional intimacy, ‘night, Mother invites audiences to confront the difficult questions of connection, purpose, and what it truly means to care for someone.
