Jake's Gift at Deep Cove Shaw Theatre

First Impressions Theatre is eager for you to come and fall in love with Juno Productions’ multi-award winning play, Jake’s Gift, in the Deep Cove Shaw Theatre, 4360 Gallant Avenue, North Vancouver, BC. The six performances will be Sept. 11 to 20, (Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm and Saturdays, Sept. 13 and 20 at 2:00 pm.)

Jake’s Gift is a moving and heartfelt tribute to our veterans. It is a one act, one-woman, multicharacter play that tells the story of a Canadian WW2 veteran’s reluctant return to Normandy, France, to find the grave of the brother who never came home. While roaming the shores of Juno Beach, Jake encounters Isabelle — a precocious ten year old from the local village. Her inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long ignored ghosts; most notably — the wartime death of his eldest brother, Chester, a once promising young musician. At its heart, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and personalizes the story behind one soldier’s grave.

Wells, BC, based Playwright and Performer, Julia Mackey, was inspired to write the play after travelling to Normandy for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy back in 2004. Last year, she was awarded a Meritorious Service Cross (MSC) from the Governor General for educating Canadians young and old about D-Day, and for her continued work in honouring and preserving veteran’s stories through presentations of Jake’s Gift.

Since 2007, this surprisingly funny drama has been receiving rave reviews and capturing the hearts of Canadians right across the country. To date, Juno Productions has toured Jake’s Gift to over 265 communities with over 1000 performances across Canada including international stops in the US, the UK and Normandy, France, for the 70th, 73rd & 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
