Folkestone Songwriting Festival invite you to the Embrooks, Picture Box, the Beatpack.
A winter festival night of freakbeat, psych and garage punk in Folkestone, with three great bands!

The Embrooks
Formed at the tail end of 1996, The Embrooks were initially influenced by the moody, minor key mid-60s US garage sound common to the New England area. They released an LP (“Separations”) and two singles before shifting toward the tougher UK and European freakbeat sound of the same era. This period produced two standout singles and their best-known album “Our New Day”. The band toured extensively across the UK, Europe, the US and Canada, appearing at major underground festivals. Their later album “Yellow Glass Perspectives” introduced more psychedelic elements while retaining their aggressive mod-rock edge. After disbanding in 2005, they reformed in 2016, releasing multiple singles and the album “We Who Are” in 2018. A brand new LP is expected in 2026. The UK’s favourite freakbeat trio return to Folkestone.

Picture Box
Formed in Canterbury, Picture Box have released four albums. Led by songwriter Robert Halcrow, their music blends Syd Barrett-style psychedelia, Blur, the Canterbury scene, indie fuzz and motorik freakouts. Known for surreal storytelling and engaging live performances, they have recently been active through Canterbury Arts Lab shows. Their sound is sometimes sinister, sometimes melancholy, often odd and always engaging.

The Beatpack
Formed to play wild teenage rock’n’roll, 60s garage punk, rhythm and blues and raw blues, The Beatpack have existed in various forms for over thirty years, with a long hiatus in between. Early releases included a single, EP and album, followed by touring before disappearing. Since reforming in 2012, they have released further singles, EPs and albums and toured internationally. Their live shows are famously chaotic, unpredictable and high-energy.
