Photos: 1536 At Ambassadors Theatre

Production images have been released for 1536, written by Ava Pickett and directed by Lyndsey Turner. The production is presented by the Almeida Theatre, Sonia Friedman Productions, Annapurna Theatre, and LuckyChap.

The cast includes Liv Hill as Jane, Siena Kelly as Anna, and Tanya Reynolds as Mariella, all reprising their roles. They are joined by Oliver Johnstone as Richard and George Kemp as William. Understudies include Harry Bradley, Saroja-Lily Ratnavel, and Sydney Spencer.

1536 is running from May 2 through August 1, 2026 at the Ambassadors Theatre, with an opening night scheduled for May 12.

The play follows three women in Tudor England who gather in Essex as news spreads of conflict between King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. As rumors grow, the women begin to see parallels between royal events and their own lives, with consequences that threaten their safety and stability.

Pickett’s play received the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and a special commendation for the 2023 George Devine Award, and she was recognized as Most Promising Playwright at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards and The Standard Theatre Awards. The production was also nominated for Best New Play at the 2026 Olivier Awards, with Turner nominated for Best Director.

The creative team includes set and Costume Designer Max Jones, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Tingying Dong, composer and arranger Will Stuart, intimacy director and choreographer Anna Morrissey, casting director Amy Ball, fight director Sam Lyon-Behan, and dialect coach Edda Sharpe.
