Patrons and Subscribers arriving for a performance at the Metropolitan Opera will find it easier and faster to make their way inside when a new entrance opens in the late fall of 2018, a significant architectural alteration designed to meet modern audience needs.

La Traviata is one of the cornerstones of operatic repertory, filled with catchy arias and duets, many which are recognizable from popular culture. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents The Metropolitan Opera: Marnie with Peter Gelb, Nico Muhly, Michael Mayer, Isabel Leonard and Christopher Maltman on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 7:30pm.

The Metropolitan Opera will open its 134th  season on Monday, September 24, with a new production of Saint-Saens's biblical tragedy Samson et Dalila, conducted by Sir Mark Elder and starring El?na Garan?a and Roberto Alagna, last seen together at the Met in acclaimed performances of Bizet's Carmen. Laurent Naouri co-stars as the High Priest opposite Elchin Azizov as the Philistine King Abimelech and Dmitry Belosselskiy as the Old Hebrew. Making his Met debut, Tony Award-winner Darko Tresnjak directs the first new Met production of the opera in 20 years.  The opening performance will be simulcast live to Times Square, and the October 20 matinee will be seen throughout the world, as part of The Met: Live in HD series.

Friday, August 3, 2018-The following statement has been released regarding the conclusion of Met Opera contract negotiations for orchestra, chorus and other represented by the The Associated Musicians of Greater New York Local 802 and The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA):

The Metropolitan Opera's annual Summer HD Festival, which presents free outdoor screenings of operas on Lincoln Center Plaza, will return for the tenth time this summer, with one screening each night from Saturday, August 25, to Monday September 3, 2018 (Labor Day). The series will present ten recent performances from the company's acclaimed Live in HD series of movie theater transmissions. As a prelude to the festival, the Marx Brothers' classic film, A Night at the Opera, will be presented on the plaza on Friday, August 24, in association with the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

This summer, the Met will rebroadcast four popular operas from the groundbreaking Live in HD series as part of the Summer Encores in select cinemas worldwide. The 2018 Summer Encore titles include: Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Verdi's Il Trovatore, Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and Puccini's Turandot.

Rossini's Semiramide is presented at the Met for the first time in 25 years, with eight performances beginning February 19, 2018, led by Maurizio Benini. The cast, comprised of artists considered by many to be amongst the world's leading bel canto singers, includes Angela Meade in the title role, Elizabeth DeShong as Arsace, Javier Camarena as Idreno, Ildar Abdrazakov as King Assur and Ryan Speedo Green as the High Priest Oroe. On March 10, 2018, the production will be transmitted to cinemas throughout the world as part of the Met's Live in HD series.

The illustrious Metropolitan Opera has been facing their share of sexual harassment reports and now The New York Times reports that long-time stage director John Copley has been fired from his most recent project due to claims of 'inappropriate behavior in the rehearsal room.'

Klaus Florian Vogt will sing the title role in the first revival of one of the most acclaimed Met productions in recent years, Wagner's final opera, Parsifal, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and directed by François Girard.

Alexey Lavrov, who stepped into the role of Silvio for performances of Leoncavallo's Pagliacci on January 13th and 17th, will sing the role at all remaining performances, replacing Alessio Arduini, who is ill. Performances are tonight, Thursday January 25 at 8.00pm, Monday January 29 at 7.30pm, and Thursday February 1 at 8.00pm.

Verdi's Il Trovatore returns to the Met January 22 for eight performances starring Jennifer Rowley in her Met role debut as the heroine Leonora, with Yonghoon Lee as Manrico, a role he sang to acclaim with the company in 2015.

Jennifer Rowley will sing the role of Leonora in all performances of the Met's production of Verdi's Il Trovatore opening January 22, replacing the originally scheduled Maria Agresta, who is ill.

Ekaterina Semenchuk, already scheduled to sing the role of Santuzza in the first three performances of the current season of Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, will now sing at all the performances, replacing Eva-Maria Westbroek, who is ill. Westbroek had been scheduled to sing later in the season from January 20 to February 1, 2018.

Emmanuel Villaume conducts the Met's new production of Puccini's Tosca, on December 31, 2017, and January 3, 6, 9, 12, 23, and 27, 2018, replacing James Levine.

Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore returns to the Met on January 16 for ten performances through to February 17, starring South African sopranoPretty Yende as wealthy landowner Adina, and American tenor Matthew Polenzani as Nemorino, the poor villager hopelessly in love with her.

Following the success of its fall productions of Puccini's beloved La Fanciulla del West and the New York premiere of Tobias Picker's Dolores Claiborne, New York City Opera continues the 2017/2018 season in January 2018 with the New York premiere of Jos 'Pepe' Mart nez and Leonard Foglia's Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, the world's first mariachi opera.

From January 24 to February 3, 2018, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) reprises Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lang's the whisper opera in 13 performances at NYU Skirball.
