The Hot Wing King, the 2021 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Katori Hall, is set in Memphis, Tennessee during the city's annual Hot Wing Festival. The play follows Cordell Crutchfield, played by Matthenee Treco, and his close-knit group of friends, played by Jos N. Banks, Randy Chalmers, Don Randle, Elijah Jordan, and Lance Felton, as they prepare for a high-stakes culinary competition while navigating themes of Black queerness, masculinity, belonging, and chosen family. Director Kenny Moten, whose previous American Stage credits include Disney's Beauty and the Beast and HAIR, brings the story to life with a blend of humor and emotional depth rooted in Memphis's musical legacy. Hall is also known for The Mountaintop, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, and the television series P-Valley.
