American Stage has announced their 2022-2023 season, which will mark the not-for-profit theatre’s 45th anniversary. The upcoming year will be centered on the theme “This is America, This is American Stage.” In celebration of their 45th anniversary, single tickets for all Mainstage performances will be just $45.
American Stage has announced their sixth annual 21st Century Voices: New Play Festival for 2022. This year’s festival will feature inspiring new plays that focus on multicultural storytelling performed live in-person at American Stage for one weekend Jan. 7-9.
American Stage is updating their 2021-2022 Season, with two new Mainstage shows that capture and inspire the theme, “For the Love of Theatre.” Single tickets for this new season are now on sale as well as subscriptions!
After over a year, Natalie is excited to see her play finally having its global debut at American Stage. The St. Petersburg-based playwright developed the play in collaboration with American Stage leadership and artists, selected from 2019's 21st Century Voices: New Play Festival to be a part of the 2019-2020 American Dreamscape season.
American Stage describes the upcoming adaptation as a 'refresh with a new adaptation where Phileas Fogg and Jean Passpartout make a mad dash around the world and meet colorful characters along their journey.'
For two weekends, January 15-17 and January 22-24, theatre patrons will be treated to four staged readings of new and original plays curated from over 200 submissions on American Stage's Virtual Stage. The 21st Century Voices: New Play Festival, now in its fifth year, features virtual live-streamed productions coupled with post-show discussions with the playwrights, and mental health clinicians, panel discussions, wellness workshops, and community conversations about mental health.
On Friday evening, September 4, on televisions and computers across Tampa Bay and beyond, American Stage virtually debuted their 2020-2021 season from Vimeo live. Appropriately named REIMAGINE, for a season designed to ensure productions can be presented during social distancing, the season features a virtual series, a series available both safely in-theatre and online, a family series, and two festivals.
Opening on March 13 and running through April 5 at American Stage, the world premiere of The People Downstairs tells the story of Mabel, a lonely, middle-aged shut-in, a visually-impaired woman who lives with her funeral home custodian father, Miles in Buffalo, NY. When a court-appointed guardian threatens to put them in a nursing home, Miles sets out to find true love for his daughter.
