BWW Previews: PATEL CONSERVATORY STUDENTS AND FACULTY PERFORM ANTONIO VIVALDI'S “GLORIA” at The Portico

On March 14, over 75 Patel Conservatory music students, fourth grade through adult, will join Patel Conservatory faculty on a variety of small chamber works. The music event will culminate in the performance of Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria" at The Portico, 1001 N Florida Ave, Tampa at 7pm.

This combined instrumental and vocal performance is now in its fourth year and second year for performing a major work.

"Gloria is a eleven-movement work that involves our chamber music students, four of our vocal arts choirs, and faculty soloists and performers that will be singing and performing alongside of the students."

Featured adjunct voice faculty soloists include Kristi Beinhauer, Jordan Campbell, Guedye St. Jean along with Timothy Wilt, bass-baritone; Robert Murray, trumpet, and Lauren Murray, oboe.

Kavanaugh Gillespie, Patel Conservatory Director of the Vocal Arts Program said, "We're really excited to perform at The Portico. It's our first time there and it's really a great space to perform. It's sort of an all-stone building, so the acoustics in this space is something you don't find in a lot of places. It's wonderful."

The concert begins with the string ensembles playing individual numbers, followed the choirs performing individual songs, culminating with Vivaldi's "Gloria."

"It starts off with really exciting celebratory fire moment then immediately it goes into something much more somber and introspective. It goes into a duet and another group number, another solo - it keeps the audience on their toes with the variety of different movements."

Kavanaugh explained that "Gloria" is completely in Latin, pulled from the Latin Mass text.

"This is a great performance for anybody. It doesn't just have to be the classical music lover. It can be just as exciting as contemporary music. It's an accessible piece of music with a lot of variety for everyone."

Tickets are $5 in advance at www.strazcenter.org and $10 (cash only) at the door.
