Review: MUSICAL EVENING at Vadstena Slott

After a week of absolutely fantastic summer weather, grey clouds began to gather over Vadstena, and by 3 p.m., it was pouring rain. However, the rain let up, and the skies were clear by the time the concert began—so Peter’s rendition of "Singing in the Rain" took place without any actual rain. Just in time for the magnificent *Phantom of the Opera* medley that closed the first act, a light drizzle began, but it wasn't until the very last songs that one could truly call it rain. Ultimately, there was very little of the predicted rain—something we all appreciated. The singing was all the more spectacular when two of Sweden’s major West End stars, Emmi Christensson (The first ever blond Christine in Phantom of the Opera) and Peter Johansson (Galileo in We will rock you) took the stage, performing their favorite songs from musicals and films, along with a few others they simply love.

We were treated to a fantastic string of songs from productions such as *The Sound of Music*, *Singin’ in the Rain*, *Chess*, *Footloose*, *Moulin Rouge*, *Kristina från Duvemåla*, *Miss Saigon*, *Wicked*, *The Lion King*, *The Phantom of the Opera*, *Saturday Night Fever*, *We Will Rock You*, *Mamma Mia*, and *& Juliet*—along with magically renditions of "Barcelona," "Time to Say Goodbye," and "Stad i ljus."

Emmi’s version of "Stad i ljus" is undoubtedly one of the best I have ever heard; it was delicate yet powerful, with impeccable pitch, and the finale was outstanding. It was such a relief to hear such a clear, pure rendition after so many sports fans have bellowed the song to pieces. This is how it should be sung and enjoyed!

It is truly evident that Peter and Emmi enjoy performing together on stage—sharing lighthearted, playful banter that also reveals how much they appreciate one another. Both possess fantastic voices that complement and elevate each other, along with the kind of stage presence found only in experienced performers.

Joining them on the tour are a talented choir—who performed "Domino" and "Defying Gravity"—as well as a fantastic band and string section.

This was truly a musical theatre evening that triumphed over the elements!

I do hope they will have a summer concert tour next year as well!
