Siyasanga, a professional theatre company run by Fatima Dike, Roy Sargeant and Paul Regenass, is delighted to be associating with the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg.
Presently, Siyasanga devotes its energies to developing the writing and production of new South African plays and the company operates either at Artscape or at the Guga S’thebe Arts & Culture Centre in Langa. Playwriting Workshops led by Roy Sargeant are presented at Artscape and at Guga S’thebe. During 2017 the new theatre space in Langa hosted Siyasanga’s production of a second play by Pfarelo Nekamande, THREE’S A CROWD. Fatima Dike directed this comedy.
Each year the company associates with the Artscape Schools’ Liaison programme to present a Grade 12 set work, Athol Fugard’s play, MY CHILDREN! MY AFRICA! This co-production will be presented once again at the Artscape Arena in May.
The new association with the Masque Theatre provides Siyasanga with a third “home” and an important one given its geographical situation and the popularity of the theatre. Siyasanga launches its association with the Masque Theatre with a production of a new play from acclaimed writer, Dawn Garisch.
Novelist, poet, medical doctor, teacher of writing and now playwright, Dawn Garisch, a resident of Kalk Bay, has written TO GET TO THE MOON. The Play is directed by Roy Sargeant and stars Anthea Thompson and Adrian Galley. Designs are by Paul Regenass.
TO GET TO THE MOON is a gentle exploration of the lives of married couple, Norman and Bianca. Some years prior to the action of the play they have experienced a traumatic event. The very different ways they have tried to come to terms with this event threaten to destroy their marriage. The play explores themes of responsibility, guilt and blame, the science and art of decision-making and the shame that keeps crucial information hidden. A moving and uplifting experience.
The production previews at the MASQUE THEATRE, MUIZENBERG on 8, 9 and 10 March (low-price) and opens on 13 March, running through to 24 March. Evening shows are at 20.00, while performance times on the Saturdays (10, 17 and 24 March) are at 14.30 and 18.30.
