MY FAIR LADY rolled into town this week, treating Austin to a classic musical of old. And by “of old” I mean lavish costuming, soaring vocals, a beautiful choral ensemble and lush orchestrations performed by a full orchestra. What a treat! In case you missed it over the last 67 years, the musical tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetics professor, so that she might transform into a refined lady. The musical is based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play 'Pygmalion,' with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. 

The irreverent romp The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Northern Stage’s first live and in-person production since October of 2020, is now in performance through July 4, 2022, at the newly-built outdoor Courtyard Theater directly behind Northern Stage’s Barrette Center for the Arts.

Run, don't walk, to see the brilliant CANDIDE at the Union Avenue Opera in St. Louis! This is the opening production of their twenty-fifth festival season, and it is, for my money, the most wonderful of the many lovely shows they've done.

San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon (Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas, Co-Executive Directors) has announced the full cast and creative team for Moon's next production, the 8-Time Tony Award-nominated musical 110 IN THE SHADE. Based N. Richard Nash's acclaimed 1954 play THE RAINMAKER (the basis for the 1956 film starring Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn), 110 IN THE SHADE features music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones (THE FANTASTICKS), and a book by Nash adapted from his own play. 42nd Street Moon's production of 110 IN THE SHADE runs from April 24 - May 12, 2019 and will perform at San Francisco's Gateway Theatre (215 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94111). George Bernard Shaw's comic romance of the Cockney flower girl and the Phonetics professor is recreated in New Theatre's staging of PYGMALION. 

Building on a tradition. That has been the credo of the North Fork Community Theatre (NFCT) for quite some time now. The uplifting story starts in 1956 with an advert calling for people interested in starting an amateur theatre. After years of performing in schools on the north fork of Long Island, they moved into their current building in 1961.

There are few shows of this genre, i.e., cover bands, tributes to, impersonators and artists embodying a legendary character... or three or four... that have the triple-threat talent needed for these portrayals of Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.

The Theatre Group at SBCC opens the 17/18 season with Cole Porter's sparkling musical, HIGH SOCIETY, July 12-29 in the Garvin Theatre. 

Balanchine choreographed 425 works over the course of 60-plus years, and his works are considered masterpieces and performed by ballet companies all over the world. So you can image how thrilled I was to find out Los Angeles Ballet was going to present BALANCHINE: MASTER OF THE DANCE as their final selection of their 2016/2017 season. In it, three of his most outstanding ballet choreographies are presented: Divertimento No. 15 featuring music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Prodigal Son with music by Sergei Prokofiev; and Who Cares? with music by George Gershwin, adapted and orchestrated by Hershy Kay.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's comic, poignant romance, THE KING AND I, is the latest musical presented by Rockdale Musical Society.

Under the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House, MY FAIR LADY pairs recreations of the original vision with Direction from the original Eliza Doolittle, Dame Julie Andrews, the remaining living link to Moss Hart's (1956 Director) original production.

Combined together, the resumes of actress Tracy Lynn Olivera and director/choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge feature just about every great musical from the golden age of Broadway, except one.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Holly Madison took the stage in Las Vegas for the first time in more than a year during a special encore performance of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Harrah's Las Vegas. Performing on the 57th anniversary of the actual date that inspired the hit show, Dec. 4, 1956, Holly sang "The Lady Loves Me" from the hit movie "Viva Las Vegas" alongside the cast during the finale. Donning a stunning dress and period hair, Holly sang a beautiful and fun rendition of the Elvis and Ann-Margret duet that had the audience on their feet, clapping and cheering. Walnut Street Theatre's Independence Studio on 3 brings audiences Mark Brown's adaptation of Jules Verne's masterpiece Around the World in 80 Days. Philadelphia audiences will be the first to experience this wild adventure before it travels as the third national tour of a Walnut Street Theatre production. Around the World in 80 Days opened in Philadelphia on January 17th and runs through February 3rd in the intimate Independence Studio on 3. The Joffrey Ballet under the direction of Ashley C. Wheater, Artistic Director, presents 'Cinderella'. Choreography by Sir Frederick Ashton. Music by Serge Prokofiev. 'Cinderella' will be performed from January 28 to 31, 2010 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

The Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, wraps up its highly acclaimed 2009 season with an enchanting retelling of the timeless Tony Award-winning musical MY FAIR LADY. The production opens December 16th and runs through February 14, 2010. Dominic Missimi (Les Miserables) will direct.
