Ten years after the opening of the hit Rita Lee Mora ao Lado, actress Mel Lisboa returns to play the rock star in an all new musical. With book and research by Guilherme Samora, direction by Marcio Macena and Debora Dubois, the show is based on the autobiography of the queen of Brazilian rock ‘n’ roll.

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation, The Producers, comes this monster new musical comedy. The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein!

MoMA PS1 will present the first New York museum exhibition of artist Leslie Martinez (b. 1985, McAllen, Texas). This is 'Sunset Boulevard', a super production that premiered on March 22 at Teatro Santander, Sao Paulo, and marks the return to the stages of one of the most beloved Brazilian theater duo: Marisa Orth and Daniel Boaventura. They will be the protagonists of the seven Tony Awards winning musical, featuring songs by Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Great success of the theatrical season in Rio de Janeiro, the musical 'O Frenetico Dancin'Days' finally arrives in Sao Paulo. The show rescues the mythical aura around the Frenetic Dancing'Days Discotheque, which was a milestone in the Brazilian night, especially the carioca, with only four months of operation, establishing fashion, behavior and celebrating freedom, when the country was in full military dictatorship. Musical by Nelson Motta and Patricia Andrade, directed by Deborah Colker, will open on March 15 at Teatro Opus.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announces a change in name from the Steppenwolf Multicultural Fellowship to the Steppenwolf Fellowship, in addition to a restructuring of the program to include a 30-hour externship. The Fellowship cohort is made up of early career people of color who hold an apprenticeship in their department of interest at Steppenwolf and are given additional paid professional development seminars and externship opportunities. The externship allows Fellows the opportunity to explore more deeply their individual professional goals, make connections to theatre practitioners outside of Steppenwolf's walls and provide more opportunities for mentorship across the industry.

Stage and screen star, Patricia Morison died today at the age of 103 at home in Los Angeles of natural causes. A stage icon and legend best known for her starring roles in Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate and The King & I opposite Yul Brynner, she established an indelible mark in films with a reputation as a the villainous femme fatale with large blue eyes and extremely long, dark hair that made her a favorite of studios and fans alike. 

Roque Santeiro, by Dias Gomes, premieres on January 27 at Teatro FAAP with musical direction by Zeca Baleiro and scenic direction by Debora Dubois. The play written in 1963 should have been staged in 1965, but was censored by the military government. In 1975, Dias Gomes (1922-1999) adapted the work for television and this version was also prohibited. Only ten years later, in 1985, with the country experiencing a process of democratization, the soap opera was finally broadcasted.

Collecting premieres around the world since 1971, when it reached Broadway, the classical musical comedy by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, based on the parables of the Gospel of St. Matthew, is back to Sao Paulo with a new look, directed by Dagoberto Feliz

Monday night at the upstairs library at The Player's Club, young actor/vocalist Evan Stern collaborated with one of cabaret's treasures, the veteran pianist/arranger/vocalist Steve Ross on a show illuminating the influence of a southern upbringing on the work of iconic songwriter and Savannah, Georgia native Johnny Mercer. The piece was beautifully put together with Stern's intermittent repartee (never dropping a musical stitch), reflecting his skills as an actor as well as a writer.

I Do! I Do! opened on Broadway in 1966, with lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, starring Robert Preston and Mary Martin, with eight Tony nominations, winning best actor. Who gave life to the couple in the American tour were the heartthrob Rock Hudson and comedian Carol Burnett. This great classic of musical theater debuts in Sao Paulo for a two months season.

The films selected for the 2013 edition will be screened in the company of those who restored the films as well as those directors that are still with us today.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a BRAZILIAN SAGA: CARLOS DIEGUES' CINEMATIC ADVENTURES, a comprehensive survey of the groundbreaking filmmaker's work, from April 12 - 18. A pioneer of the revolutionary Cinema Novo movement, which made film an integral part of the cultural and sociopolitical struggles facing Brazil in the 60's. Diegues' now-iconic films had a historical emphasis and were among the first to bring Afro-Brazilian culture to life on film.
