Dear Readers, I’m all for a slice of life play showing the inequities in class, race, gender, etc. in the past and spotlighting how far we have not come. Such a play is Pearl Cleage’s “Blues for an Alabama Sky”, currently playing at the Seattle Rep. It’s not a new play; in fact it’s about 30 years old. But it still packs in some resonance. What it fails to pack in completely is much of an arc or ending for its characters.

Chicago is never lacking outstanding theatre, whether epic Broadway shows, engrossing dramas or bold fringe offerings. BroadwayWorld is rounding up our top recommended theatre every month. Selections for the holiday season include The Little Mermaid and more.

MICHAEL McCRARY is an International creative based in New York City. He has created over 15 digital videos that have reached millions of views collectively across Instagram and Youtube. He has worked creatively with Todrick Hall (first AD on ICON), RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 contestants Plasma and Sapphira Cristal (Bloody Mary, DROMP, ENOUGH, the CRISTAL BALL), and Omar Jose Cardona (the VOICE Season 22). As a choreographer he has worked for TD Bank, Metropolis Productions, Mary Kay, Hasbro, Toys R US, Macys, Basic Fun! and RWS Global (MSC, Iberostar). Michael started his business Michael McCrary VIBE in 2022. His business creates custom digital content, live events, and stage shows for various artists and brands both nationally and internationally. VIBE also operates a dance education program in Greenville, South Carolina training youth and adult dancers. Michael is a guest faculty member at the world-renowned Broadway Dance Center, NYC. Hungarian Holocaust survivor Georgia Gabor (1930-1994) is the inspiration for The Messenger, a world premiere play by Palm Beach Dramaworks Resident Playwright Jenny Connell Davis. A meditation on the connections between past, present, and future, the play interweaves Gabor’s story with that of a young Asian American woman facing racial discrimination in this country in 2020.

El Haq Latief, Indonesian non-binary actor and performer, will join the cast of Playhouse Theater’s acclaimed production of Cabaret starting this September. It will be their seminal performance after graduating from Royal Academy of Music’s (RAM) Musical Theater program.

Artistic Director Marti Lyons and Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, currently presenting the world premiere of Jessica Dickey's Galileo's Daughter through May 14, have announced its 2023 - 2024 season.

The Hollywood Museum has announced its 2022 salute to the LGBTQ+ community's contributions to the entertainment industry, it will once again present its ninth (due to the pandemic) annual 'Real to Reel: Portrayals and Perceptions of LGBTQ+ in Hollywood” exhibit in partnership with Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell (CD-13).

Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre calls upon the national and international theater community to expand its definition of classical theater and include these brilliant writers and artists in their production seasons, publications, classrooms, and beyond.

Kim Loo Gets a Redo, opening tonight as part of New Ohio Theatre's 28th annual Obie Award-winning ICE Factory Festival, is an original work highlighting the history and impact of the Kim Loo Sisters, the first Asian American act on Broadway.

And now for something ethereal, funny and more than a little trippy. On June 26, The Marsh presents 'Astronautica,' a musical drawn from the words of women who have traveled through outer space, to its digital platform, MarshStream.
