Match - 2004 Broadway History , Info & More

Plymouth Theatre
236 W. 45th St. New York, NY 10036

From playwright Stephen Belber (Match, Tape, The Laramie Project) comes a provocative new drama that pits social responsibility against personal redemption. When Delaware journalist Rick Dayne meets death row inmate Darius McReele, the articles Rick writes eventually lead to Darius's exoneration from an 18 year old murder conviction. Darius's sympathetic past and magnetic personality make him a darling of the lecture circuit, leading to national attention and political viability. With his past and future in the balance, Darius walks the line, as Rick seeks to determine which way he'll ultimately fall.

Review: THE NOTEBOOK THE MUSICAL at Belk Theater
by Perry Tannenbaum - May 22, 2026

THE NOTEBOOK The Musical was a charming chamber piece when I first read Bekah Brunstetter's adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' breakout bestseller. But the touring version is now playing to bigger houses than either its original Chicago premiere or its New York engagement. With Broadway-extravaganza pretensions. Call me back when a local company decides to mount this musical at an appropriate scale.

Jesus Christ Superstar began as a concept album in 1970 before making its stage debut in 1971. The original 1970 concept album was the brainchild of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice.

Review: ASSASSINS at Carlisle Theatre Players On High
by Andrea Stephenson - Apr 18, 2026

The acting in this production of Assassins is phenomenal, giving the audience the unsettling experience of relating to these characters as they plot and execute their assassination attempts. Assassins is a musical that will speak to many today.

Review: Revamped MEAN GIRLS Musical Debuts at La Mirada Theatre
by Michael Quintos - Apr 15, 2026

Now having its Southern California regional production, MEAN GIRLS - THE MUSICAL continues performances at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through May 3, 2026. Produced by McCoy Rigby Entertainment, this fun, high-energy, youthfully-targeted new iteration of the 2018 stage adaptation of Tina Fey’s beloved 2004 film comedy looks and feels like a brand new show—boosted by impressive new visuals and a highly-caffeinated ensemble whose enthusiasm and verve is quite infectious. A dazzling, entertaining show with high-caliber polish, La Mirada's production is a slick, electrically-charged iteration that is a worthwhile new chapter in the show’s evolution.

Review: MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT at Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater
by Alexander C. Kafka - Dec 19, 2025

This diverting if uneven revival of the 2004-5 Broadway hit is an amusing distraction from the tense politics playing out at the venue.

Review: BUG at Dirt Dogs Theatre Company
by Brett Cullum - May 20, 2025

They have managed to restage BUG for 2025, and boy, is it a doozy! You don’t want to miss this revival and reimagining of the Tracy Letts cult classic. The entire company goes for broke, and they create a fiery display of acting, visuals, and audio landscapes that will blow you back in your chair.

Interview: Malinda Beckham & Curtis Barber of BUG at DIRT DOGS
by Brett Cullum - May 14, 2025

So I think, first and foremost, Bug, believe it or not, is a love story. Without loneliness and without loss and without vulnerability, we don't get to the place that we need to be, where this crater of ache exists inside Agnes, which opens her up to Peter. Which really is the beginning of the infestation.

Review: ASSASSINS Offers Another National Anthem at THE GARDEN THEATRE
by Brett Cullum - Oct 13, 2024

When all is said and done, you have to applaud the bravery of this show. In an October where everyone else is offering safe fare such as British comedies, yet another take on Dracula, and an additional adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, this small company is daring you to face what might be wrong with America. It is a huge swing for the fences and remarkably well-performed and produced.
