A Hot Old Time Revival

If the longevity of a Broadway classic is judged by its ability to reflect both its historical significance and its present existence in popular culture, this new revival of THE WIZ is somehow caught somewhere between reverence and reinvention.

Jeanna de Waal, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Kevin Chamberlin, George Abud, Kimberly Immanuel, Adrianna Hicks, Ann Harada, Lara Teeter, Eric Jordan Young, Danny Gardner, Spencer Jones and Joe Capstick will star in the Muny production of Anything Goes.

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Lisa Brigantino is excited to announce her I'll Waltz Before I Go album release show and celebration at The Cutting Room, in New York City on Saturday, May 18th at 7:30pm. It will include songs from her recent album as well as select songs from previous albums. The David Roche Foundation, has opened a new exhibition The Pursuit of Pattern which showcases more than 50 rare and exquisite works of art, most of which have not been previously seen, that explore the fashion for inlaid surface patterns on furniture, objets d'art and jewellery. Each item highlights the superb workmanship that was achieved through materials and techniques mastered in the 18th and 19th centuries which are now largely lost.

In a spectacular evening celebrating the performing arts and jazz, Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts premiered their annual musical "Hot Funky Butt Jazz" in the Guthrie Theater's Dowling Studio The no intermission production carries three wishes for cultural improvisation on the magic of the show's narrator, a voodoo mama, Marie LaVeau. In the process of performing, Interact fulfilled their mission to present the capabilities of artists with disabilities, mental and physical challenges, to participate in every art form, including theater. This mission impacts the 50 plus cast members included in "Hot Funky Butt Jazz," a tribute to the dance hall where jazz originated in the mercurial city of New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century. 

The full cast for The 5th Avenue Theatre's spectacular new production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which stars Deaf actorJoshua Castille as Quasimodo, has been announced. Castille will use American Sign Language (ASL) throughout his performance, bringing new life and perspective to Quasimodo, who is deaf in the novel by Victor Hugo.
