The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center has announced Dr. Clint Smith as the 2022 Stowe Prize winner for his New York Times bestselling book, How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery across America (Little, Brown and Company, 2021).  This year's events will be both in-person and virtual.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center will honor Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. as the 2021 Stowe Prize winner. Glaude receives the award for Begin Again: James Baldwin's America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own, a book that uses the life of James Baldwin to create dialogue about racial inequality in the United States.

East Lynne Theater Company presents 'Nothing Matters,' a two-person play about one of the world's greatest writers, Ambrose Bierce.

On Her Shoulders will present a virtual reading of Slaves in Algiers (1794) by Susannah Haswell Rowson, directed by Melody Brooks, via NPTC's YouTube Channel: NewPerspectivesTC.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center and The Mark Twain House & Museum have announced that they are both reopening to the public for guided tours starting Thursday, April 8 and Saturday, April 10 respectively. Both organizations are eager to welcome back visitors after having been closed for a large part of 2020.

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts announced today that it has acquired the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company Archive, a comprehensive collection spanning the entirety of the company's existence. Beginning today, the paper-based materials in the collection -- including photographs, correspondence, production notes, company records, and more -- are now available for research at the Library's Jerome Robbins Dance Division.

MC Theatrical Productions today announced that it will present MIDNIGHT STREET, a dramatic new musical written and directed by Arnold L. Cohen, with music direction by Matt Castle, May 29th - June 22nd at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). The official opening will be on Wednesday, June 5th at 7PM.

Obie Award winning Metropolitan Playhouse (220 E. 4th Street) presents Jacob Gordin's The Jewish King Lear, one of the foundational works of the "Golden Age" of American Yiddish theater, in a new English translation by Ruth Gay, from April 27 through May 27, 2018. The play, which had its Lower East Side debut in 1892 and was written as a star vehicle for Jacob Adler, one of the greatest actors of the New York's Yiddish stage. Metropolitan Playhouse welcomes back director Ed Chemaly (The Easiest Way, The Spirit House) to helm the production.
