Following his acclaimed New York Philharmonic debut on the ASIA / WINTER 2014 tour, jazz pianist Makoto Ozone will join Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic in a newly added concert Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The all-American program will include Bernstein's Candide Overture; Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, featuring Mr. Ozone as soloist; Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story; and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The concert will mark Mr. Ozone's U.S. orchestral debut; his appearances with the Philharmonic on the ASIA / WINTER 2014 tour marked his first performances with an American orchestra.

The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement which spanned the period from about 1919 to 1929. It was the literary era when members of the Great African American Migration, Negroes who had moved into the U.S. Northeast and Midwest, asserted themselves in art, poetry, literature and theatre. Participants included James Wendell Johnson, Cleveland's Langston Hughes, and Countee Cullen.

The Missionary Society of St. Columban commonly known as the 'Columban Fathers' is a missionary Catholic society of apostolic life founded in Ireland in 1916 and approved by the Vatican in 1918. Initially, it was known as the Maynooth Mission to China. Members may be priests, seminarians or lay workers. Since 1918, it has been sharing the Gospel in solidarity with the poor throughout the world. Jacob's Pillow Dance and MASS MoCA co-present inventive, contemporary ensemble Shen Wei Dance Arts on October 26 and 27 at MASS MoCA's Hunter Center for the Performing Arts. Led by Chinese-born American choreographer Shen Wei, the New York-based dance company blends his signature movement vocabulary with elements of film, theater, new media, and visual art. The program includes Shen Wei's interpretation of Rite of Spring (2003), in honor of the original production's 100th year, and striking new work Collective Measures (2013). The company's performances coincide with the final weekend of MASS MoCA's Xu Bing: Phoenix exhibit, an installation featuring two monumental birds fabricated wholly from materials reaped from construction sites in urban China.

The program opens with Ravel's Alborada del gracioso and closes with Bolero, two pieces that reflect the French composer's fascination with Spain. The concert will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center at a later date, and Classical 105.9 FM WQXR at 7:30 p.m.

New Worlds Theatre Project has announced that it will present the English language premiere of Peretz Hirshbein's Yiddish play, Carcass, beginning tonight, September 7 at 7pm at HERE, 145 Sixth Avenue. The opening night is set for Thursday, September 12.

New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works.

The GRAMMY Foundation Grant Program announced today that more than $200,000 in grants will be awarded to 14 recipients in the United States to help facilitate a range of research, archiving and preservation projects on a variety of subjects. Research projects include a study that will investigate a potential core deficit in rhythm processing in developmental stuttering, combining behavioral and neuroimaging studies in children with studies in songbirds. Preservation and archiving initiatives include a project that will preserve and provide access to a unique organ recording collection of master organ player rolls and noteworthy arrangements produced in the 1920s; and an effort to preserve and digitize the audiovisual collections of imperiled media of the Andrews Sisters, Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman, and Bob Hope, among others.
