Stages Repertory Theatre is pleased to present, in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Sin Muros: A Latinx Theatre Festival, Marisela Treviño Orta's The River Bride, running from January 23 through February 10, 2019. Chronicling the lives of two sisters in a Brazilian fishing village who are struggling to find their own happily-ever-after while bound to family honor and tradition, the play incorporates traditional Brazilian folklore and lyrical storytelling to weave a magical tale of love, fate and transformation. The River Bride received its world premiere in 2016 at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and has been performed at the Arizona Theatre Company, Halycon Theatre and Su Teatro over the past three years.

Breakout recording artist, Damien Sneed, will bring his brand of jazz and gospel music to The Soraya for an evening of We Shall Overcome A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Joining him for this musical tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King will be two of LA's leading gospel singers, Grammy Award-winner Erica Campbell and evangelist Markita Knight.

This January, rapper, poet and award-winning Omar Musa brings his critically acclaimed show Since Ali Died back to Griffin Theatre Company for Sydney Festival following triumphant sold-out runs at Griffin's inaugural Batch Festival and Darwin Festival in 2018. Using the death of his hero Muhammad Ali as a lyrical springboard, Musa dives into a furious torrent of poetry, story and song, confronting everything from suburban violence to lost love to his Malaysian heritage-and the dark realities of growing up as a brown-skinned Muslim boy in Queanbeyan. Hailed for its "compelling and innovative programming (WQXR Radio)," dell'Arte Opera Ensemble today announced its 17th annual summer festival: Voices from the Tower exclusively featuring works composed by women.  The season will include the commissioned world premiere of Princess Maleine, with a libretto (based on the play by Maurice Maeterlinck) by Bea Goodman and music by Whitney George, and the first opera ever composed by a woman, La liberazione di Ruggiero by Francesca Caccini (1625), with a libretto by Ferdinando Saracinelli.  A scenes program will feature Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot and other operatic scenes by Thea Musgrave, Victoria Bond and others, and "Les Boulangers" will be a recital of songs featuring the works of Lili and Nadia Boulanger, their contemporaries and students.

Steely Dan announced today that the band will return to The Beacon Theatre stage for a nine-night residency of themed performances starting October 17, 2018.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers staged complete performances of several of their beloved classic albums from start to finish at The Beacon in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016. Included among the highlights of this year's extraordinary concerts are: performances of Steely Dan's Countdown to Ecstasy (1973), The Royal Scam (1976), Aja (1977), Gaucho (1980), plusDonald Fagen's solo album The Nightfly (1982), plus “By Popular Demand” and “Greatest Hits” nights. The Resident Acting Company, a new troupe drawn from the performing ensemble of The Pearl Theatre Company, will present a staged reading of 'The Belle's Strategem' by Hannah Cowley on Monday, October 29 at 7:00 PM at The Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South.  The reading is the second installment of the troupe's 'The Language Series,' which is devoted to plays that delve into the use of words to lie, deceive, manipulate, conquer, tell the truth, work out the meaning of life and even to find love. 

Pacific Symphony won't save the best for last in the opening of the 2018-19 Pops season with the sensational entertainment star Vanessa Williams. Led by Pops conductor, Richard Kaufman, the Symphony joins Williams to celebrate her career for two nights at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, with a program of her icon hits such as "That's Entertainment," "Dreamin'," "Love Is Love," and "Save the Best for Last." The Symphony will also play the Hollywood themes from the film scores of "Splash," "The Producers," "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "Animal House and Airplane."
