The Sound of Music is a veritable old warhorse of the Broadway musical canon, and it has stood the test of the vicissitudes of time. No amount of changing source material, cynicism, saccharine, or negativity can puncture the universal themes of familial love, romantic love, devotion spirituality, perseverance, forgiveness, and devotion that permeate this beloved musical. These universal themes have resonated with audiences from time immemorial---and are especially pertinent in today’s polarized times. 

Broadway currently boasts 41 theaters. This number has always been ever-changing—since even before the first time the word “Broadway” was used to describe professional theater in New York.

Some of the shows that the Orpheum has been best known for are Stomp, which ran there for an astounding 29 years, from 1994 to 2023, and the original production of Little Shop of Horrors which spent over five years at the theater from 1982 to 1987.

“DJ Play a Christmas Song” came in at No. 94 with the recent flurry of Christmas music topping the charts. The song is from Cher's acclaimed Christmas album, released earlier this year. Incoming Artistic Director Simon Godwin today announces Shakespeare Theatre Company's 2019-2020 Season. Godwin's debut season highlights his artistic aspirations for the company to create high quality, exciting, inclusive theatre. Godwin states, This is not my season, but ours, everybody's season.

Tony Award Winner Cady Huffman will direct the Weathervane Theatre's production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time as part of season 54. Based on  the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens, Curious Incident premiered in London at the National Theatre before transferring to Broadway where it was awarded the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. Curious Incident joins the alternating on August 12. Casting and creative team info will be announced in the coming weeks.
