This December, Steppenwolf Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere production of La Ruta by acclaimed Chicago playwright Isaac Gomez, directed by ensemble member Sandra Marquez. Featuring ensemble member Karen Rodriguez along with an eight-member all female Latinx cast, La Ruta is inspired by the lives of Mexican women who live, work-and disappear-along a Ciudad Juarez bus route. La Ruta weaves live music through a story of resilience in the wake of loss.

Award winning EMH Productions continues its seventh season of provocative and compelling theatre with the Sacramento premiere of Inversion by up and coming writer Aditya Putcha. A five-character modern day dramedy, this play made its debut at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2017 at the Sacred Fools Theatre. This timely 90 minute play delves into the world of dating, treatment of women as sex objects, the dynamics of relationships between men and women, along with testing our understanding of what it means to truly care for one another. It had its first staged reading to a sold out and enthusiastic audience in June of 2016 directed by Elise Hodge and Produced by EMH Productions. San Francisco Playhouse celebrates the magic of the holiday season with the hit Broadway musical Mary Poppins. Susi Damilano will direct the Playhouse production, with music direction by Katie Coleman and choreography by Kimberly Richards.

Now in previews, opening is slated for Today, October 4.

Rescripted is thrilled to announce the second session of The Key: Young Critics Mentorship Program, beginning September 18 and hosted this year at Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted. Regina Victor, founder of the online arts journalism platform Rescripted and entertainment critic Oliver Sava, created the 10-week training program for Chicago youth in arts criticism. In league with The Chicago Inclusion Project, The Key successfully launched last year at Greenhouse Theater Center with its first group of young writers learning the skills and industry knowledge needed to pursue careers in arts criticism. 

Principal photography has wrapped on the VR comedy short SHADY FRIEND starring Nick Kocher (former writer, “Saturday Night Live”), Nick Rutherford (Brigsby Bear, former writer, “Saturday Night Live”) Minka Kelly (The Roommate, “Friday Night Lights”) and 'Weird Al' Yankovic. The film, which is produced by Positron and Ralph Smyth Entertainment, is the first multisensory VR experience incorporating immersive and interactive VR, scents, motion, and haptics created from the ground-up for the Positron Voyager®. SHADY FRIEND was shot on the Z CAM V1 Pro and K1 Pro with 360 and volumetric filming taking place in Los Angeles, CA.

With back to school season upon us, students young and old are eagerly anticipating their first day of classes. But, for two handfuls of miniature musicians, the major assignment this school year is rocking around the country in the first national tour of SCHOOL OF ROCK, now onstage at the Music Hall at Fair Park, which concludes Dallas Summer Musicals 2017-2018 Broadway series. And even when the star teacher fails to make the grade, the kiddos pull together to ace the group project.

MadLab's world premiere production of Lost in Time by Tony Pasqualini will take place Fridays and Saturdays, Aug. 10 - 25, 2017, with a special preview performance on Thursday, Aug. 9, at MadLab, 227 N. 3rd St., in Columbus.
