New York City's leading center for complete ballet education, Ballet Academy East (BAE), today announced its 20th annual Spring Performance series taking place at Hunter College's Kaye Playhouse, May 31-June 2, 2019. Approximately 135 students from BAE's Pre-Professional Division will perform during the series. The program features Sleeping Beauty, Aurora's Wedding staged by Maina Gielgud and includes world premieres by Charles Askegard, Amanda Edge, and Alan Hineline. Works by Darla Hoover, Jenna Lavin and Marcia Dale Weary round out the program.

The School at Steps, a creative home and multidisciplinary training ground for the next generation of dancers, along with co-sponsor Pointe Magazine, will hold the Pointe Shoe Workshop and Fair, for ballet dancers interested in or currently dancing en pointe. The workshop will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, with a panel of professionals, from stage and beyond, to discuss methods of safe practices en pointe, and highlight the importance of properly fitting shoes.

Norte Maar, a committed Brooklyn-based think-tank dedicated to the creation, promotion, and presentation of collaborations in the visual, literary, and the performing arts, presents the seventh season of Counterpointe, a curated performance series of new choreographic works by female artists and the pointe shoe. Six women choreographers have been paired with six NY metro-based female visual artists to collaborate and create both a new physical and visual work by each while investigating the process of creation, inspiration and development. Presented in partnership with Brooklyn Ballet, the annual series will be presented April 26-28 at The Mark O'Donnell Theater at the Actors Fund Arts Center in downtown Brooklyn.

Houston Ballet announces Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM has promoted Nozomi Iijima to the rank of Principal. Formerly a First Soloist, Iijima was promoted on the evening of March 1, 2019 after dancing the title role in Welch's Sylvia. This well-deserved promotion adds to the continued excitement of Houston Ballet's whirlwind of spring productions during its 2018/19 season.

Red Bull Arts Detroit will present its first artist residency exhibition of the year will feature new artworks created by Miatta Kawinzi, Tiff Massey, and Patrick Quarm during the artists' three-month long, live-in residency. The exhibition will be open to the public from April 12–June 2, 2019, with an opening reception held on today, April 12 from 6-9pm.

The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announces its 18th season of performing arts, filled with the leading artists in music, dance and theater alongside an insightful group of speakers. The season begins on Sunday, September 29, with a family-friendly performance from gospel true-believers Trey McLaughlin & The Sounds of Zamar and concludes June 7, 2020 with the Alexander String Quartet finishing a two-year cycle of the complete Shostakovich string quartets.
