Polka Theatre today announces full casting for the world premiere of the brand new musical adaptation of Michael Rosen'sChocolate Cake, opening the new Spring/Summer season. Shoreditch Town Hall today announces further productions in the venue's spring programme, which brings together work exploring the themes of identity, time and place. This June sees the UK premiere of ANU & CoisCeim Dance Theatre's These Rooms, an intense, immersive blend of theatre, dance and visual art by David Bolger, Owen Boss and Louise Lowe. The work is co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK's official arts programme for the First World War centenary, LIFT and Shoreditch Town Hall, and tells the story of 15 civilian men who were killed in house-to-house raids by British soldiers on a single Dublin street on 28 April 1916, five days into the Easter Rising. Prior to this, acclaimed theatre-maker Christopher Brett Bailey returns to Shoreditch Town Hall, where he previously performed in Wedding, with a new solo show, Suicide Notes… The Spoken Word of Christopher Brett Bailey; Hackney-based Access All Areas presents MADHOUSE: re:exit, an underground adventure by five learning disabled artists; and the critically acclaimed magician Vincent Gambini performs a work-in-progress of his new piece, The Chore of Enchantment.

The festival will kick off today, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. with Voices of the Community: Celebrating Local Playwrights, an evening of work created by San Diego residents through the Globe's arts engagement initiatives Community Voices and coLAB, and will continue with four readings by some of the most exciting voices writing for the American theatre today. The new American play readings commence on Saturday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m. with Laurel Ollstein's They Promised Her the Moon, directed by Giovanna Sardelli (Somewhere, The Whipping Man at the Globe), followed at 7:30 p.m. by Too Heavy for Your Pocket by Jir h Breon Holder, directed by Patricia McGregor (Globe for All's Measure for Measure).The Festival continues on Sunday, January 14 at 3:00 p.m. with The Tale of Despereaux, with book, music, and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Co. (The Old Man and The Old Moon at the Globe), based on the novel by Kate DiCamillo and the Universal Pictures animated motion picture. The Festival will wrap up that evening at 7:30 p.m. with The Great Leap by Lauren Yee, directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (Globe's Skeleton Crew).

SAFEhouse Arts, a ten-year-old artist cooperative working to incubate new dance and theater artists through residencies, workshops and performance opportunities, has announced its December program in honor of SAFEhouse Arts Founder and Executive Director Joe Landini, celebrating 25 years of dance making in San Francisco.

Michael Fabiano is returning to the Royal Opera House this month to star as the Duke of Mantua in Sir David McVicar's production of Verdi's Rigoletto. The Grammy nominations are here! It's such a fun awards show, chock-full of accolades for mediocre pop songs sung by artists with nodules bigger than my fist-a true example of folks living the American Dream. Each year I hope for the best, thinking that, maybe, the nominating committee, or the performers, will surprise me-flipping the script on my shockingly low expectations. This year, to see if they'd accomplished that feat, I headed over to the Grammy's website to peruse the list of nominees.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association shares the findings of two new studies from the Brain and Creativity Institute (BCI) at USC, showing that musical training can change children's brain structure and boost engagement in the brain networks responsible for decision-making. The findings highlight the importance of access to music and arts education and coincide with the LA Phil's recent announcement of the expansion of its Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program through the addition of a new site, YOLA at Camino Nuevo, and the opening of The Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center @ Inglewood in 2019.

GREASE THE MUSICAL takes us all back Rydell High with a newly imagined production by director and choreographer, Josh Prince (Broadway's Beautiful - The Carole King Musical and Shrek - The Musical). A cast of TV leads do their best bringing the beloved show to life, but the performances, especially the singing, fall flat.
