IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City. The festival consists of special events offering a variety of looks at history, identity and the mystery of existence itself, including panels on series that explore dystopian realities and alternate timelines, and screenings that transport us into any number of time periods and places, be it a late-1800s South Dakota town or the height of 1980s ballroom culture in New York City.

Baryshnikov Arts Center presents Estado Vegetal (Vegetative State), an exuberant and polyphonic one-woman show written and directed by Manuela Infante,one of the most prolific voices in contemporary Chilean and Latin American theater (May 2-3).

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), under the leadership of Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Producer Diane Borger announced its 201920 Season programming today, including subscription offerings, A.R.T. Breakout, Afterglow @ OBERON, Live @ OBERON, the Run AMOC! Festival, The Donkey Show, and A.R.T. in the World.

It was announced today Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon-a beloved San Francisco institution and the longest running musical revue in the world-will give its final performances on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 (New Year's Eve). Upon its closing, the show will have played a record-breaking 17,216 performances. 

Gianandrea Noseda will lead the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) in their first Carnegie Hall concert together on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. This performance in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage marks the Orchestra's first performance in six years at the Hall.

Obie Award winner Metropolitan Playhouse revives Dion Boucicault's THE POOR OF NEW YORK, with music from the era. The limited run from April 19 through May 19, 2019, plays at the Playhouse home at 220 E 4th Street. Artistic Director Alex Roe directs.

This morning, The Black Keys confirm their extensive, thirty-one-date arena tour of North America. The Onassis Foundation USA has appointed Vallejo Gantner as its new Artistic and Executive Director. Gantner led the internationally influential New York City cultural institution Performance Space 122 (now Performance Space New York) from 2005 to 2017 and was responsible for all programming and strategic direction, including the creation of the annual, interdisciplinary COIL Festival; the production of worldwide tours for multiple shows under the PS122 Global moniker; and the conception, fundraising, and management for the recent $35 million renovation of the organization's longtime East Village home.

Grammy-winning new-music choir, The Crossing, announces a program change to its current concert season with For Joe on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 8pm at The Crossing's home, The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill. For Joe honors the life of Joseph Flummerfelt, the preeminent choral conductor of our time who passed away on March 1. Flummerfelt was a former teacher of conductor Donald Nally and together they wrote the 2011 book Conversations With Joseph Flummerfelt: Thoughts on Conducting, Music, and Musicians.

La MaMa will present the US Premiere of Kosovo's Qendra Multimedia in 55 SHADES OF GAY: BALKAN SPRING OF SEXUAL REVOLUTION, a contemporary burlesque story about LGBTI politics in the Balkans written by Jeton Neziraj and directed by Blerta Neziraj. Performances begin March 7, 2019 at The Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa.

The Crossing and Donald Nally have won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for their recording of Lansing McLoskey's Zealot Canticles. The award was presented yesterday, February 10, 2019, at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. This marks the Philadelphia new-music choir's second consecutive Grammy in the category, previously winning the 2018 Grammy for Gavin Bryars' The Fifth Century with PRISM Saxophone Quartet on ECM. The Crossing's recording of Thomas Lloyd's Bonhoeffer (Albany 2016) was nominated for the 2017 Grammy in the same category.

Well, my little piggies and wolves, the next CDs I'm eliminating from my apartment are all the recordings of all the versions of Into The Woods. I'm talking London cast, movie version, Broadway revival and ouch, the one that's gonna leave a gaping hole in my heart, that beautiful Original Broadway Cast Recording starring Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Tom Aldredge, Robert Westenberg and above them all as the Witch (receiving the deal-breaking top billing the producers previously refused Patti LuPone when they offered her the role) Bernadette Peters.

Thursday Night Theater Club announce their cast of fourteen for The Elephant Man by playwright Bernard Pomerance.  Robyn Cohen is delighted to be at the helm with such a notable group of actors.   The production opens at El Portal Theatre.
