Following a six month long shut down due to the Covid pandemic, The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre reopened this past weekend with a brand new staging of Disney & Cameron Mackintosh's MARY POPPINS.
The PLAYGROUND FESTIVAL OF NEW WORKS is a leading showcase of new plays and new playwrights. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival marks its 25th anniversary, by presenting its offerings on-line. The resulting fest is a 25-event covering 5-weeks, all live-streamed via Zoom, and largely free of charge.
This year's Kids4Kids show at Ephrata Performing Arts Center is a beloved classic: Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's MARY POPPINS, JR. In 1910 England, the most essential fixture in any family's home is the nanny, but with kids like Jane and Michael, the Banks family just can't seem to keep one! That is until the practically perfect Mary Poppins drops in. She'll need more than just a "spoonful of sugar" to help this family take a dose of common sense. She'll also need a fair bit of magic and help from the loveable Bert, who is far more than just a chimney sweep.

Berkeley Playhouse opens their 10th season of professional theater for family audiences with the East Bay premiere of Alan Menken's heavenly musical comedy, Sister Act. Based on the hit 1992 film, audiences will be praising the toe-tapping, gospel infused score from Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid). TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with a musical saga of immigrant America, Rags. From the creators of Fiddler on the Roof and Wicked, this exhilarating musical follows the journey of Jewish immigrants Rebecca and her son David, who find themselves navigating the teeming, turn-of-the-century tenements of New York. A soaring, tuneful score (music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) illuminates this sweeping saga (book by Joseph Stein) of dreams and disillusions, love lost and inspiration found, and the heart and soul of the American character. It was declared "A winner, warm and witty. You are tempted to rise cheering," by The Mercury News. Rags will be directed by TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, who notes "this production could not be timelier. As America debates immigration policies, what better time to present this deeper look at the newcomer's experience." The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation today honored social justice pioneer and sports icon Billie Jean King, actor and author F. Murray Abraham, architect and designer Daniel Libeskind, and philanthropist Gregory Annenberg Weingarten at its 2016 Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards, held in the Great Hall at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Such was the case when I experienced Eugene O'Neill's ANNA CHRISTIE at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. The incredible cast stars Zoe Perry alongside her real-life father, Scandal's Jeff Perry, and Grey's Anatomy's Kevin McKidd as the play's trio of iconic characters who create an explosive mix, each struggling for salvation.
