After twelve years at the artistic helm of the 'choir that inspired the nation' in the ground breaking, award winning ABC TV series 'Choir of Hard Knocks', Founding Artistic Director Dr Jonathon Welch AM announced his retirement last week from the choir at the end of December 2018.

Grammy-winning country music artist Lee Greenwood, along with his iconic and patriotic hit song 'God Bless the USA,' will be featured on the latest edition of NPR's American Anthem series. Greenwood's interview with NPR's Don Gonyea will air on Tuesday, September 11 at 5:50 & 7:50 am ET / 6:50 & 8:50 am CT, during NPR's Morning Edition.

Telluride Film Festival, presented by the National Film Preserve, today announced its official program selections for the 45th edition of the Telluride Film Festival. Alexandra Burke is a singer, songwriter and actress who shot to fame in 2008 after winning The X Factor. In addition to releasing three albums, she has been seen in the UK tour of Sister Act and recently in the London Coliseum production of Chess. Burke has just joined the cast of Chicago, in which she will be portraying Roxie until 14 October. After that, she returns to the role of Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard, a role she previously played in London and on tour.

Disney's enduring classic The Little Mermaid is heading to the stage in Charleston, WV! The Anchoress, a new monodrama by composer David Ludwig, "a composer with something urgent to say" (Philadelphia Inquirer), will have its world premiere on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia under the auspices of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. The next evening, Thursday, October 18, the New York premiere will take place at DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Set to texts by Katie Ford, whose poetry "possess[es] the veiled brilliance of stained glass windows seen at night" (The New York Times Book Review), The Anchoress is based on the medieval mystic tradition called anchorism and its relationship to contemporary society. It will be performed by soprano Hyunah Yu, the early music ensemble Piffaro: The Renaissance Wind Band, and all-saxophone PRISM Quartet.

LUMBERYARD Contemporary Performing Arts opens its inaugural summer 2018 season, which will fill venues surrounding the organization's highly anticipated new facility in Catskill, New York, with Scat!,a dance-driven musical from Urban Bush Women set in Hudson, NY's Club Helsinki (June 29-July 1). The season,which runs from June 29 - September 2, represents the fullest realization to date of LUMBERYARD's unique dual promise: to make transformative contributions both to the cultural landscape and economic health of Upstate New York and to the field of contemporary performance in New York City and the U.S. by bringing renowned and emerging artists across the performing arts landscape to Catskill for out-of-town premieres, often incubated through LUMBERYARD's signature technical residencies.

I like entertaining. Since I was eight years old and the best sight-reader at school, responsible for playing hymns at chapel services and carols at Christmas time, I loved to see the faces of my schoolmates light up when I surreptitiously improvised and made the hymns "hoppier" and happier.
