In his earliest memory, my grandfather is four years old. The year is 1919 and he stands on his tenement building in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where he watches an army parade. Soldiers are returning from the Great War, and eternal peace on Earth seems possible.

Last summer, a group form the Ohio Humanities Council visited Piqua to consider it as one of their Ohio Chautauqua sites for 2017.  Unfortunately, they were not selected, but they did encourage the group to develop their own Chautauqua event.  Well, give folks from Piqua a challenge and they deliver.  So a dedicated committee officially began working on Piqua Chautauqua! The dates for this event will be September 19, 20 & 21, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. and will take place at Hance Pavilion, located in Fountain Park in Piqua.

Peter and Will Anderson, the brilliant musicians known as The Anderson Twins, have produced and created Songbook Summit at 59E59 Theaters with presentations that celebrate great American Songbook composers during the month of August.

The full cast is announced for heart-warming new musical Son of a Preacher Man. Joining Diana Vickers, Debra Stephenson and Ian Reddington in the 2017 tour are Michael Howe, Michelle Long, Kate Hardisty, Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, Lewis Kidd, Liam Vincent-Kilbride, Jon Bonner, Rachel McAllister, Ellie-Jane Goddard, Gary Mitchinson and Jess Barker.

When put to the test the human will to survive reveals its strength. I LOVE YOU: A Story of Forbidden Love, is a timely story presented as part of 2017's Sydney Fringe Festival.  A fictional story set in Armenia 1919,  consists of a sense of history, a social and political focus and a strong effeminate voice; the third theatre show written and produced by aspiring Sydney playwright Sage Godrei.

A Dead Whale Productions continues their inaugural season with the world premiere production of Artistic Associate Tyler Garamella's Hog'sBelly: A Fable Noir, directed by Founding Artistic Director Dane Eissler. A Dead Whale is proud to continue their commitment to challenge theatrical convention by creating edgy and original theatrical events by all means necessary. Hog'sBelly opens Thursday, July 20th; and closes on Saturday, July 29th at Gorilla Tango Theatre in Bucktown, Chicago.

Actor/cabaret singer Stephanie Trudeau will perform a return engagement of her docu-cabaret, 'Chavela: Think Of Me,' at Pangea Supper Club, 178 Second Ave. (East Village), June 26 at 7:30 PM. She had debuted the piece there on May 15 and has been invited back in response to the appreciation of her audience and an enthusatic review.

Chicagoland theatrical company, Death & Pretzels continues their Residency at the Gorilla Tango Theater, with a staging of the world premiere of Musical Therapy a new musical from writing team of Joey Katsiroubas & Dan Hass.

Nearly a hundred years after Aline Barnsdall first envisioned an artist colony on Olive Hill in the middle of Hollywood, the public will have a rare opportunity to experience her dream come to life. Beginning May 6th, Hollyhock House, in partnership with Circle X Theatre Co. and J.U.S.T. Toys Productions, presents the Maria Irene Fornes play FEFU AND HER FRIENDS staged as an immersive theatrical event inside Hollyhock House. It is a first for this historical beauty and an exciting project that unites the past and present in more ways than one.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater announces nine productions of the 2017/18 Season-which will engage audiences with timeless stories in transformational settings. Write Out Loud - an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading short stories aloud for a live audience  - announces THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS, the fifth production in their 10th Anniversary Season.  Write Out Loud Story Concerts bring literature to life - aloud - with rehearsed readings by professional actors. Each program explores specific themes by weaving a variety of stories, poems and music together into a literary tapestry.  Amanda Sitton, Veronica Murphy, Walter Ritter and other WOL favorites will perform and Mark Danisovszky will play the music of Paris. A pre-show reception starts at 6:15pm with a 7:00pm curtain.
