What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

Having sold more than 23 million albums to date, award winning band INCUBUS has announced today they will be hitting the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their platinum selling album Make Yourself. The Grammy-nominated band will take the 20 Years of Make Yourself & Beyond tour to 39 cities across the country, playing songs from that era as well as other songs spanning their career. Special guests Dub Trio, Wild Belle and Le Butcherettes will join on select dates.

In the Spring of 2001 playwright Patrick Riviere finished the first draft of his play The House of Nunzio. It was not his first play, but his first in years. By the fall of 2003, the full-length play described as a 'humorous drama' had been named a semi-finalist in two national playwriting competitions, had been given a reading at Manhattan Theatre Club Studios and was selected for a developmental workshop at Manhattan Theatre Source. It seemed as if the play was destined for a world premiere and yet the playwright struggled to find anyone who wanted to produce it, despite the accolades and preliminary interest from some theaters.

BroadwayWorld has learned that The Muny announced today 25 principal cast members for the first season of its second century. Complete company casting will be announced throughout April and May. The 101st season opens on a brand new, state-of-the-art stage with Muny favorite Guys and Dolls followed by the U.S. regional premiere of Kinky Boots. The season continues with 1776, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Footloose and a newly-reimagined Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon. Season 101 closes with the highly-anticipated Muny debut of Roald Dahl's Matilda.

Alabama-based husband-and-wife folk/rock duo Martha's Trouble (aka Rob and Jen Slocumb) will be setting sail October 6 through October 13, 2019 on their first-ever concert cruise.  Fans of the pair's music are encouraged to purchase a cabin and join them for a very special, exclusive music experience on the high seas on board the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas. Fans must purchase a cabin through the duo's site on Fan Club Cruises (https://fanclubcruises.com/event/mathas-trouble-concert-cruise) in order to partake in three Martha's Trouble concerts, a meet-and-greet, and a very special Q&A storytelling session during the course of the cruise.  The fan club offering is limited to 50 cabins, so the shows and special Martha's Trouble events on-board the ship will be intimate and personal for fans who join the fun. Departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, the cruise will visit Labadee in Haiti, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Phillipsburg in St. Maarten, before returning to Florida.  

SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL is bursting with kids, all of them bursting with talent. Based on the 2003 movie starring Jack Black, the stage version is the brainchild of Andrew Lloyd Webber, a guy who knows a thing or two about creating successful musicals. Nominated for four 2016 Tony Awards, the show ran for more than three years on Broadway, a little over a year in London, and the national tour has been on the road since September, 2017. It's a feel good musical with a happy ending, something to lighten up the winter doldrums.

Schimmel Center at Pace University continues its 2018-19 Dance Series with the return of Battery Dance on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 7:30pm. The evening's repertoire is characterized by choreography and music inspired by worldwide sources, reflecting American society and its multiplicity of cultures, with contributing artists including Silk Road Ensemble member Kevork Mourad, Grammy Award winner Kinan Azmeh, and Battery Dance Founder and Artistic Director Jonathan Hollander. In addition, choreographer Tadej Brdnik will present the world premiere of his new work, The Red Line.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can will present the 2019 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund (PCF) concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for composers in New York and beyond. Seattle Repertory Theatre today announced complete ensemble casting for its production of renowned Seattle playwright Steven Dietz's Last of the Boys, an emotional story of the Vietnam War's complex legacy. We meet Ben - he lives off-the-grid in his trailer in the California Central Valley, haunted by the memories of his service during the Vietnam War. His self-imposed exile is disrupted by the arrival of Ben's old war buddy, Jeeter, with his new girlfriend and her volatile mother in tow. Intimate, funny, and fierce, Last of the Boys delves into a veteran's struggle to understand his troubled past, which threatens to swallow him whole. Last of the Boys will be directed by Seattle Rep Artistic Director Braden Abraham and runs January 18 - February 10, 2019 (opening night is January 23) on the Bagley Wright stage. The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 24 - February 3, 2019.

The National Theatre announces today that The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, adapted by Simon Stephens from the novel by Mark Haddon, and directed by Marianne Elliott (War Horse, Angels in America, Company) will return to the West End in November 2018 for a limited season. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time begins previews at the Piccadilly Theatre on 29 November, with an opening night on 11 December.

Following an acclaimed 17th season that included sold-out performances, critical accolades, and multiple New York Innovative Theatre (NYIT) Awards for its record-breaking production of Follies, Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) returns for its female-driven 18th season, featuring a benefit concert of Luna Park: A New Musical and two mainstage productions: the New York Premiere of Queen and the Tony-nominated musical, Caroline, or Change.

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director Tim Sanford, Managing Director Leslie Marcus) will, from today, November 12, through Thursday, November 15, accept entries for the Live for Five online lottery, giving out $5 tickets to the New York premiere production of Noura, from 9 Parts of Desire playwright and actor Heather Raffo and director Joanna Settle. The Washington Post deemed this "epic-feeling, nearly searing portrait of a woman torn between cultures and family" the "best premiere of the Women's Voices Theater Festival" when it made its world premiere in Washington, D.C. earlier this year. Produced in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company, it will be performed at Playwrights Horizons from November 27 to December 30. Playwrights Horizons created Live for Five in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. Since its inception, over 3,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the initiative.

The Mousetrap, the legendary whodunnit from Queen of Crime, Dame Agatha Christie, today announces a major national tour opening in January 2019 starring Gwyneth Strong (Only Fools and Horses) as Mrs Boyle, directed by Gareth Armstrong.
