What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

The Celebrity Series of Boston announced its 2019-2020 season today, marking 81 years of bringing the world's greatest performing artists to Boston.

The clash between Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots takes on contemporary resonance, exploring issues of gender and power in Mary Stuart, adapted by Olney Theatre Center Artistic Director Jason Loewith from Friedrich Schiller's Maria Stuart. Loewith also directs his adaptation of this retooled classic for a unique 21st Century production staged with 6 actors in the intimate confines of the 150-seat Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab (May 8 - June 9, 2019).

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) Music Director Designate Jaime Martin makes his only appearance this season on LACO's Orchestral Series when he conducts the West Coast premiere of the LACO-co-commissioned song cycle Voy a Dormir by Bryce Dessner, known to many as a guitarist with Grammy Award-winning alternative rock band The National and one of the most sought-after composers of his generation, on Saturday, April 27, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, and Sunday, April 28, 2019, 7 pm, at Royce Hall. Dessner's work was written for and features Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, who is also spotlighted in Mozart's Requiem with soprano Sarah Shafer, tenor Thomas Cooley, bass Dashon Burton and the USC Thornton Chamber Singers. Martin begins his tenure with LACO in the 2019-20 season.

Multiple Grammy and Oscar winning artist, musician and producer T Bone Burnett gave a thought provoking keynote speech at SXSW today, warning of the current dangers of the dominance of digital monopolies like Google and Facebook, while championing the value of the independence of artists. The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-M st announced details of their 2019-2020 season which encompasses 76 concerts over 26 weeks. One significant highlight includes a festival designed to explore music and art that was banned, marginalized, and destroyed during the Nazi's Degenerate Art movement, and the continuing impact of censorship on creative expression in society today. The festival will center on Alban Berg's Lulu, one of the 20th century's most influential operas, and includes partner programming with the area's notable arts institutions.

At the elegant Soroya Theatre in Northridge, CA, Martha Graham's Dance Company, under Artistic Director Janet Eilber's seasoned guidance, performed a most incredible group of works.  Some were originally created approximately 80 years ago, by Martha Graham, a true icon in the Dance world.  The EVE Project, as this evening, March 2nd, 2019 was entitled, gave us a wide variety of themes within a theme, that being Women and their significance, their power, their passion and their strength.  It was polished to perfection, and each piece carried many meanings and concepts and was just so beautifully performed and articulated. The Martha Graham Dance Company is the oldest contemporary dance company in the United States, founded in 1926.  Since it's inception it has explored and encompassed political and humanitarian issues, as well as affairs of the heart and human interactions, while creating a prolific dance technique that is unequaled in it's scope.  Graham created a total of 181 ballets during her long career, and is recognized as a primal artistic force of the 20th century, being named in 1998 as 'Dancer of the Century' in Time magazine, and labeled one of the female 'Icons of the Century' by People Magazine.

The first Glenn Miller Orchestra did not make it at all. It was a total and absolute economic failure. But Glenn knew what he wanted, held to that dedication and relentlessly worked to succeed. He launched his second band-the one that lives on today-in March of 1938. The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been a 'hit' ever since.

Hartford Stage announced today the cast and creative team for Jeeves & Wooster in "Perfect Nonsense." The Olivier Award-winning comedy from brothers David and Robert Goodale will perform at Hartford Stage Thursday, March 21, through Saturday, April 20. Original director Sean Foley returns to stage the show, which is making its North American premiere at Hartford Stage. Three Broadway actors - Chandler Williams, Arnie Burton, and Eddie Korbich - star in the three-hander.

Four symphonic orchestras, a major heritage museum and one of Los Angeles' leading performing arts centers will join forces in 2020 for an ambitious collaborative initiative that will bring to life the sounds of music once lost. 

The Celebrity Series of Boston presents the 5th annual Stave Sessions, the unique music series showcasing the innovative, the experimental, and the collaborative approaches of emerging artists. The 2019 Stave Sessions take place March 19-23, 2019 at 160 Mass. Ave. in Boston. Doors open at 7pm; concerts begin at 8pm. Each concert features 2 sets with one intermission. Yehuda Hyman is a Brooklyn-based choreographer and playwright who's new play, The Mar Vista: In Search of My Mother's Love Life will be running at the Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center from March 5 through March 23, 2019. Yehuda Hyman spoke to BroadwayWorld about the process of developing the show over the last several years and the unique stories it portrays.

In celebration of the upcoming 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women the power to vote, the Martha Graham Dance Company has created The EVE Project, a two-year initiative, which will be performed at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) on Saturday, March 2. 

Rose Theatre Kingston and Vanessa Redgrave today announce a work in progress, Vienna 1934 - Munich 1938. Vanessa Redgrave performs on stage with Daisy Bevan, Robert Boulter and Paul Hilton. Opening with a limited run as a Work in Progress, at Rose Theatre Kingston on 7 February until 9 February. Also announced today is An Evening with Vanessa Redgrave hosted by Roger Michell on Saturday 9 February 7.30pm.

Concert to Honor Tree of Life Synagogue Victims on PBS December 11

Westport Country Playhouse presents the acclaimed musical memoir, "The Pianist of Willesden Lane," from December 6 through December 22.  The production returns to the Playhouse by popular demand after a sold-out run in April 2017.

Westport Country Playhouse will offer a free-of-charge performance to "The Pianist of Willesden Lane" for students at Connecticut schools adopting the "Willesden Reads" program into their curriculum to study the Holocaust. 

In conjunction with Westport Country Playhouse's presentation of the musical memoir, "The Pianist of Willesden Lane," a documentary film, "Finding Leah Tickotsky: A Discovery of Heritage in Poland," will be screened, free-of-charge, on Monday, December 10, at 7 p.m., in the Lucille Lortel White Barn Center, on the Playhouse campus. The event is presented in partnership with The Westport Library. 

Obie Award winner Metropolitan Playhouse brings Robert Ardrey's documentary play to the stage for its first New York revival.  The limited run, closing December 9, 2018, plays at the Playhouse home at 220 E 4th Street.  Alex Roe directs.
