Head Trick Presents Musical GOBLIN MARKET

Two adult sisters return to their childhood home, where they once again come face to face with the perils and fantasies of their youth. In Polly Pen and Peggy Harmon's haunting chamber musical, adapted from Christina Rossetti's poem, the wilder Laura chafes against the limits of her ordinary life, and succumbs to the lure of the goblin fruits and the mysterious world they promise. BWW Review: ALYS, ALWAYS, Bridge Theatre

Harriet Lane's memorably unsettling 2012 novel, about an overlooked sub-editor who infiltrates the literary elite, has been adapted for stage by Lucinda Coxon. Its combination of psychological thriller and industry satire is decently translated, but a conservative production from Bridge boss Nicholas Hytner (who, astonishingly, is here directing his first ever play by a female writer) makes a middling case for the virtues of a theatrical version. Massachusetts High School Students Compete At State Semi-Finals Of Poetry Out Loud

The Huntington Theatre Company's Education Department and Mass Cultural Council celebrate the 14th anniversary of the national Poetry Out Loud contest, having facilitated the contest in Massachusetts since its inception in 2006. This year, seventy-two high school students from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will participate in five regional semi-final contests March 2, March 3, and March 4. PCPA's current production, Shakespeare in Love, imagines Will Shakespeare's (Yusef Seevers) madcap adventures in London early in his career. Because historians truly do not know much about the personal life of the greatest writer of the English language, his life is a blank page upon which almost anything may be written. In this play, Shakespeare falls in love (at first sight) with Viola de Lesseps (Emily Trask). And, for our amusement, the course of true love does not run smooth. (more...)
