Ira Glass, public radio host and creator and producer of This American Life, returns to the Valley on Jan. 20, 2018, to share lessons from his life and career in storytelling in Seven Things I've Learned: An Evening With Ira Glass. His appearance at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Phoenix is part of Scottsdale Arts' new Scottsdale Arts Presents series. During his presentation, Glass will use audio clips, music and video to mix stories live onstage and help his audience better follow the creative process of one of our nation's foremost storytellers. What inspires him to create? What drives his passion? How have failures and successes informed his decisions?

Long Wharf Theatre presents The Chosen, adapted by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok from the novel by Potok, directed by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein, from November 22 through December 17.

Returning for their annual Thanksgiving weekend pilgrimage to Scottsdale, The Capitol Steps plan to bring down the House and Senate with their blend of sharp political satire set to popular music. Comedian Rita Rudner, who has charmed her way into the hearts of millions with her witty stand-up routines, sold-out tours, best-selling books and appearances on HBO and late-night television, brings her unique brand of soft-spoken humor to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m.

Jazz is about 100 years old, and Latin jazz is 80. But Latin jazz also has another name: Eddie Palmieri. Palmieri, one of jazz's legendary pianists and band leaders, will appear in concert with his Latin Jazz Orchestra Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, as part of a tour commemorating his 80th birthday.

Company Music DirectorNicola Luisotti leads an international cast featuring three artists making their Company debuts in leading roles: Romanian soprano Aurelia Florian as Violetta Val ry, Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan as Alfredo Germont and Polish baritone Artur Rucinski as Giorgio Germont.

The classic 1987 San Francisco Opera production, which evokes the opulence of mid-19th century Paris in lavish, detailed settings and costumes, will be revived by original director John Copley along with stage director Shawna Lucey. Artistic Director of Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco Carola Zertuche contributes new choreography in her Company debut. Ian Robertson directs the San Francisco Opera Chorus.
