LiVE @ the MAC concert series presents Doug Munro and La Pompe Attack who will perform "The Harry Warren Songbook", Friday, November 17th at 8 pm at the Milford Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Avenue, Milford, CT.

Master musician and guitar virtuoso Doug Munro is an established veteran of the New York music scene. Since 1987 he has released 17 albums as a leader and has appeared on over 75 recordings as a sideman, producer, and arranger working with a diverse array of artists including Dr. John, Michael Brecker, BB King, Darlene Love and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Doug has over 75 original published compositions and over 300 recorded arrangements performed by some of the finest players in the world. He has released recordings in many jazz styles including: Soul-Jazz, Organ Trio, Latin and Gypsy Jazz

Doug's latest release, "Doug Munro and La Pompe Attack: The Harry Warren Songbook" is a Gypsy Swing infused tribute to Doug's great uncle Harry Warren who wrote such classics as Forty Second Street, Lullaby of Broadway and We're in the Money. The CD features guitarist, Vinny Raniolo and bassist, Michael Goetz, both of whom will perform with Doug Munro at this concert.

Harry Warren was an American composer and lyricist. Warren was the first major American songwriter to write primarily for film. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song eleven times and won three Oscars for composing "Lullaby of Broadway", "You'll Never Know" and "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe". He wrote the music for the first blockbuster film musical, 42nd Street, choreographed by Busby Berkeley, with whom he would collaborate on many musical films.

Over a career spanning four decades, Warren wrote more than 800 songs. Other well known Warren hits included "I Only Have Eyes for You", "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby", "Jeepers Creepers", "The Gold Diggers' Song (We're in the Money)", "That's Amore", "The More I See You", "At Last" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo" (the last of which was the first gold record in history). Warren was one of America's most prolific film composers, and his songs have been featured in over 300 films.

In the recording field Doug has received two Grammy nominations and two NAIRD awards. Amazon.com picked Boogaloo to Beck , on which Doug performed, arranged, and co-produced, as one of its Top Ten Jazz CD's of 2003. Doug also did orchestration work on the Oscar winning documentary When We Were Kings. In 2011 "A Very Gypsy Christmas " was picked as one of the top five holiday releases by the Wall Street Journal.

Doug has written four books on jazz improvisation for Alfred Music Publications, including "Swing to Bebop", which won the Music and Sound Retailers instructional book of the year award in 2000.

This concert is cabaret seating and will be BYOB. Wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase in our Speakeasy lounge as well. Tickets are $20 and $15 for MAC members. For tickets or more information, go to www.milfordarts.org or call 203-878-6647.
