TFANA will present Alice Childress’s Wedding Band. Director Awoye Timpo’s new staging, running April 23–May 15, brings Childress’s masterpiece to New York audiences for the first time since 1972, when it made its New York premiere in a production directed by Childress and Joseph Papp.

'Falsettos is one big, warm hug of a musical'

ELIZABETH IRELAND McCANN, the iconoclastic Broadway producer who won nine Tony Awards during a 60-year career in theater, died after a bout with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, according to her longtime associate and friend, Kristen Luciani.  She was 90 years old. 

Although Anita Gillette & Penny Fuller have been in show business for a very long time, their close friendship is not even a decade old yet. Fans frequently mistake them for each other. This is the premise of their show SIN TWISTERS which will open at 54 Below Monday, August 16. The title, of course, is a Spoonerism.  Fuller and Gillette explain that, and the mystery of their mistaken identities in the show. They also sing lots of fantastic numbers from the many stages of their careers. I recently caught up with Anita and Penny on Zoom. It was a chatty, delightful afternoon. 

Whether it be a live or recorded performance, a classical, contemporary, musical theatre or spiritual song, British/Italian soprano Carly Paoli, certainly knows how to deliver and 24 September 2021 will see the release of a brand-new album,  Carly Paoli & Friends on the Abiah label. 

Rockefeller Center and Art Production Fund will continue their Art in Focus partnership with a site-specific public art presentation by Los Angeles-based painter HILARY PECIS. Presented in multiple public locations throughout the Rockefeller Center campus, Pecis’ presentation will begin on July 6, 2021.
