Among the 17 recipients of the 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom are Broadway legends Stephen Sondheim and Barbra Streisand, as well as pop star and ON YOUR FEET! creator Gloria Estefan. President Barack Obama named this year's honoreees last week, and the awards will be presented at the White House today, November 24th.

The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) today announced its 2016 YoungArts Winners. From more than 12,000 applications-the largest number to date-819 young artists from 42 states have been selected for their outstanding work and accomplishments across the literary, visual, design and performing arts. Dixon Place announced the recipient of the 3rd Annual Tom Murrin Performance Award, also known as 'The Tommy.' A transformative career opportunity for an emerging NYC-based artist or company, the 2015 award will be presented to Monstah Black, a multi-disciplinary performance artist known for his funk-style musical creations. The 3rd Annual Tommy Award presentation will take place at the Howl! Happening Gallery (6 East 1st Street) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 5pm as part of the Luna Macaroona Full Moon Performance Series. The event is free to attend.

NNPN Announces Over $125K in Grants for 2015-16

The National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announced its 2015-16 grant recipients, including the Smith Prize for Political Theatre, the 2015 Annual Commission, two Playwright Residencies, five Producer Residencies, and two Collaboration Fund awards that will support partnership between eight of its members on two productions. In all, NNPN committed over $125,000 to fourteen Core Member Theaters and nine Affiliated Artists.
