A stage icon and legend best known for her starring roles in Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate and The King & I opposite Yul Brynner, she established an indelible mark in films with a reputation as a the villainous femme fatale with large blue eyes and extremely long, dark hair that made her a favorite of studios and fans alike. 

Full casting has been announced for Pride Films and Plays' production of the landmark British drama THE GREEN BAY TREE, which premiered in London's West End in 1933 and later that year made Laurence Olivier an international star when he played the lead on Broadway opposite his then-wife Jill Esmond. It was a scandalous hit in both London and New York. In THE GREEN BAY TREE, an infamous comedy of manipulation, a charming young man is forced to choose between the love of his fiancee, the lifestyle of his male mentor, and the prescription of his upbringing.

The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University (CBA), the first international institute devoted to the creation and academic study of ballet, today announced the 27 artists and scholars who will serve as CBA Fellows in the 2018-19 academic year. It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy that Martyna Majok's COST OF LIVING has officially won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The Lyric Stage Company continues to meander through the works of Stephen Sondheim with ROAD SHOW, his most recent collaboration with librettist John Weidman. While not in the upper echelon of Sondheim's works, the score and the Lyric production make it worthwhile. This musical travelogue about the Mizner Brothers, a pair of entrepreneurs and con men who sought their fortunes in escapades from Alaska to New York to Florida in the early 20th century, is the story of their successes, failures, and the art of the deal, fitting right in with our American zeitgeist.

Orchestra of St. Luke's returns to Carnegie Hall for three concerts in the fall including its annual subscription series presented by Carnegie Hall, opening on October 12 with Conductor Laureate Pablo Heras-Casado on the podium. He leads Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21, and Mozart's Mass in C Minor, K. 427 ('Great'), featuring the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and guest vocalists sopranos Camilla Tilling and Susanna Phillips, tenor Thomas Cooley, and bass-baritone Michael Sumuel.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2016?17 season at the Bessies press conference. The nominees were selected by the Bessie Awards Selection Committee, an independent committee of 38 dance industry professionals. Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revived Work, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design. Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. Daily Times). Described by CBC as a, "bawdy, bluesy, boozy rollicking night out at the theatre," the show follows the life, loves and career of blues and jazz singer Bessie Smith, called the "Empress of the Blues." 

Fresh off the heals of the successful run of The Santaland Diaries in December, the Peterborough Players Inaugural Winter Season returns to the stage in February for the final two shows of the season. 

Milwaukee Repertory Theater Artistic Director Mark Clements and Managing Director Chad Bauman are pleased to announce the 2017/18 Season with 13 productions in four venues spanning September 2017 - May 2018.  With the start of the 2017/18 Season both Artistic Director Mark Clements and Managing Director Chad Bauman will renew their contracts with Milwaukee Rep for an additional four and six years respectively.  Artistic Director Mark Clements began his tenure at Milwaukee Rep in 2010 by introducing a musical into the Quadracci Powerhouse season, creating the New Play Development program, and adapting and directing the world premiere production of A Christmas Carol this past December.   With this contract renewal through 2021 he will continue his commitment to presenting world class works on all three stages.    Managing Director Chad Bauman came to The Rep in 2013 and will continue through 2023 per his contract renewal.  In his time here he has implemented a fruitful strategic business model that supports the theater's artistic vision with a focus on quality, inclusion, citizenship, innovation, and stability.
