I was fortunate enough to see Houston's Classical Theatre Company present THE RETURN OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, written by Arthur Conan Doyle (Writer of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes novel series). This production of THE RETURN OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, directed by Melissa Flower, was a wonderful curveball that left me excited for more Sherlock. The presentation and physicality of Act One will have any Sherlockian intellect wondering if what they saw was classic Sherlock Holmes (spoiler alert: it is).

The Ladies Foursome was based upon an earlier play by Foster entitled The Foursome, in which four men who are old buddies from college, play 18 holes of golf. Foster shifted the story to feature four women instead of four men, and changed the plot in specific ways to fit his new cast of characters. Ladies Foursome premiered at the Morrisburg Theatre in Montreal, Canada in July of 2014. The show received glowing reviews with many critics claiming that this new Foursome was better than the first. Soon after, the play received an American premiere at the B Street Theatre, and since then has been produced at the Bay Theatre in Baltimore, Theatre Baddeck in Cape Brenton Island, and the Toowoomba Theatre in Canada.

GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI! Live life dramatically: It's Friday, May 12, 2017 - graduation day at Vanderbilt University - which prompts the musical question: 'Does it always have to rain on that day? This day, in particular?' Truly it's a FREAKY FRIDAY tradition, if the grads are donning caps and gowns at Vandy, chances are everyone else will be carrying their umbrellas with them in Music City.

If there's one New Year's greeting we don't use in the 'book biz,' it's 'many happy returns.' No returns are happy to us! (A little book publishing humour, folks.) That said, we at Coach House do wish you the best in 2014. Thanks for all your support in 2013 – you read and reviewed our books, came to our events, frequented our pop-up shop and generally made us feel like we were doing important work in the world of Canadian publishing. And with a Spring 2014 list (see the catalogue here) that includes Margaux Williamson, André Alexis, Harry Karlinsky, Elise Turcotte, Sina Queyras, Brecken Hancock, Jen Currin and Sean Dixon, we know 2014 is also going to be a banner year!

Igor Stravinsky's epic, The Rite of Spring, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Stories of its eventful premiere on May 29, 1913 in the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris are legendary. A veritable riot erupted in the theatre, more the result of Vaslav Nijinsky's choreography than Stravinsky's music (or Pierre Monteux's conducting). Insults were shouted from the audience, slapping and punching took place, it must have been quite an evening. And the Parisians' reaction was, I suppose, predictable. Graphic depiction of pagan Russia was hardly what the audience was expecting, and Stravinsky's primitively pulsating music full of angular harmonics and orchestral histrionics was more than the proper public could tolerate.

Something tells me Nashville Ballet's Chris Stuart is having a particularly good Tuesday. After a dark and stormy Monday in Music City, the sun is brightly shining, his team claimed the NCAA championship last night and, well, today (Tuesday, April 5) is his birthday. So if you should run into the talented dancer and choreographer, you might wish him many happy returns of the day and offer up some congratulations.
