The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) continues its 2019-2020 season with The McCrindle Concert, presented by the NYYS Orchestra on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2pm, at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, led by Music Director Michael Repper. The concert features 2019 Senior Division Sphinx Competition winner and cellist Sterling Elliott performing Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B Minor as well as the world premiere of First Music commission The Sycamore and the Oak by composer Tanner Porter, and Respighi's Pines of Rome.

The full cast is today announced for the return of Tim Cowbury's The Claim at Shoreditch Town Hall following its debut sell-out run in 2018. Mark Maughan directs Nick Blakeley (A), Tonderai Munyevu (Serge) and Indra Ové (B). The production opens on 20 February, with previews from 18 February and runs until 7 March.

Sundance Institute will gather 25 celebrated and revered expert voices across film, art, culture and science to award feature-length and short films shown at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival with 31 prizes, announced at a ceremony February 1. Short Film Awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 28. The Festival takes place January 23 through February 2 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance, Utah.

In keeping with the mission and vision of The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc, the company will present 'a photograph / lovers in motion,' written by Ntozake Shange and adapted and directed by Ifa Bayeza, from February 5 to 29 at Theatre 80 St. Marks, 80 St. Marks Place. The play was first produced at The Public Theater as 'a photograph / a study in cruelty' in 1977 then revised and produced at the Houston Ensemble Theater in 1982 under its current title, 'a photograph / lovers in motion.' It was presented as a feature in NEC's annual reading series in 2015, Year of the Woman.

Gordon's latest work is the musical a?oePride and Prejudicea?? soon to start its world premiere run at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. He has formed a close relationship with the company over the years, including hit productions of his shows a?oeJane Eyre,a?? a?oeEmma,a?? a?oeBeing Earnest,a?? and a?oeDaddy Long Legs.a?? Interestingly, Gordon initially found success as a composer of pop music writing for, and collaborating with, numerous recording artists, including Bette Midler, Quincy Jones, Alanis Morissette, Smokey Robinson and Dionne Warwick. An abiding love for musical theater led to a fortuitous meeting with esteemed director John Caird that opened up a whole new career for Gordon. BroadwayWorld caught up with him while he was still in the thick of the rehearsal process for his new show, which can be a very stressful time. Bernie Williams, Latin Grammy-nominated jazz musician and former New York Yankees World Series Champ, returns to Café Carlyle, April 21-25. Bernie Williams, the New York Yankees center fielder for 16 years, is best known for his long and storied career in pinstripes - a career that includes four World Series championships, five appearances on the American League All-Star Team, four Gold Glove Awards and the 1996 American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award. Since he's hung up his cleats, he's had time to devote to his other great passion in life - jazz guitar. Now that he's out of the game, he's getting back to his musical roots. His return engagement at Café Carlyle, as part of the Bernie Williams Collective, will include an eclectic mix of Latin rhythms, smooth jazz, blues and standards. The Bernie Williams Collective is comprised of Bernie Williams (guitar), Don Harris (trumpet; music director), Joel Rosenblatt (drums), Dave Anderson (bass guitar), Erik Piza (percussion) and Clifford Carter (piano; keyboard).
