One of the most interesting cabaret performers in town, Joanne Halev debuted her first club act in 2018 to great response, and part of it is because she is SO interesting a?? and so is her former career. Stephen Mosher talks with Joanne about transitioning from perfume to performing.

The Welk Resort Theatre, located at the Welk Resort in San Diego, launches the Pulitzer Prize/Tony-winning A Chorus Line as part of its 39th Season. Director/Choreographer Hector Guerrero makes his debut on the Welk Resort stage with this beloved musical created by Michael Bennett in 1975 with music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Ed Kleban, and a book by James Kirkwood Jr and Nicholas Dante. Guerrero spoke about his evolution as a dancer, choreographer, director as well as how this musical speaks to him.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that legendary Tony Award winning composer and lyricist Jerry Herman has passed away. He died in Miami on December 26, due to pulmonary complications. He was 88 years old.

Today, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of American rock group, The Frogs, founding member Jimmy Flemion has announced their upcoming winter U.S. tour. Performing their prolific discography, the tour will include sounds spanning decades of iconic songs that have set the tone for rock today. The tour will include seven dates across the west coast including one in Canada. Today the band also announces that Evan Dando of The Lemonheads will join Jimmy Flemion on drums for the entire tour. This will be the first tour since the passing of the late Dennis Flemion. As Little Steven looks back on his early solo career with the upcoming boxed set, RockNRoll Rebel – The Early Work, the creatively restless Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is simultaneously looking forward with a slew of new releases including a theatrical, Gene Kelly-inspired video for his song “Love Again” from his latest album, Summer Of Sorcery, and an exuberant live performance of Bruce Springsteen's “Tucson Train.” Leading up to the December 6 release of the boxed set, Little Steven aka Steven Van Zandt has been steadily releasing digital deluxe editions of the albums included over the last few weeks and today has made available his 1989 album, Revolution, which includes two rare mixes of the title track. 

If Charles Dickens were working today, he'd likely be enlisted to write for one of the serialized television dramas on which millions feed on and binge. In his day, the equivalent was writing serialized dramas for publication to boost readership.

The House Theatre of Chicago is proud to announce the company's second main stage production of its 18th season. The world premiere of Brett Neveu's Verböten with music and lyrics by Jason Narducy runs January 16 a?" March 8, 2020 at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St. Verböten, a new musical inspired by Narducy's 1980's Evanston-based teenage punk rock band is directed by The House Theatre of Chicago's Artistic Director Nathan Allen.

As winter nears and the end of the year closes in, the fall season can be a moment of deep reflection. Los Angeles based artist Onsen takes those feelings on headfirst with inklings of summertime in his latest track “The March,” out today. The song debuted by way of Northern Transmissions, who said it reminded them of “some of the finest sounds of the eighties British music scene, including The Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, and more.”

This time, however, guests are asked to play a much more significant role in the story, with our choices directly impacting: the show's outcome as well as the fates of key characters. Thurs, vastly different endings are possible depending upon how the audience works together to complete the evening's mission.

Glimmerglass Film Days will offer five days of independent films, events, art, and filmmaker talks, November 7-11 in Cooperstown. 'Adaptations' is the theme of the seventh annual film festival, which will be held in multiple locations, including the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum, and the Otesaga Hotel. A record number of 37 films will be shown.

 The Hollywood Film Awards announced today that highly-acclaimed artists Antonio Banderas, Renée Zellweger, Al Pacino and Laura Dern will be honored at the 23rd Annual “Hollywood Film Awards.”  Banderas will receive the “Hollywood Actor Award” for his poignant turn in Pedro Almodóvar's 21st film, “Pain and Glory” and Zellweger will receive the “Hollywood Actress Award” for her powerful portrayal of the iconic Judy Garland in Rupert Goold's “Judy.”  Pacino will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award” for his brilliant depiction of the infamous Jimmy Hoffa in Martin Scorsese's mob masterpiece “The Irishman,” and Dern will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actress Award” for her commanding performance as a hard-hitting divorce attorney in Noah Baumbach's “Marriage Story.”  Actor and comedian Rob Riggle will host the ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.

At its core, the original production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (and the movie adaptation it spawned) unabashedly celebrated its campy outlandishness. But unlike the original source material which was filled to the brim with sassy sight gags, cartoonish mannerisms, and pulp thrills, this new, gloriously reimagined production---now on stage at the Pasadena Playhouse through October 20, 2019 helmed by director Mike Donahue---feels much more grounded in reality and feels much more guided by the emotions of its characters, rather than have them just play second banana to the monstrous plant of excess vying for all the attention.
