Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! had some special guests over the weekend. Jeanna de Waal, who will be starring in the new musical “Diana” this season caught the show and went backstage to congratulate the cast and from the world of science, Neil deGrasse Tyson brought his family to see the Tony winning musical. The entire cast was fascinated with Neil and had many questions about astrophysics and science which he graciously expounded on.

Artistic Director Michael Ritchie announced Center Theatre Group’s 54th season at the Ahmanson Theatre will begin in August 24, 2021, four months later than it was formerly scheduled. The season features the previously announced “The Lehman Trilogy,” “The Prom,” “Hadestown” and “Dear Evan Hansen” plus “1776” which was previously announced for the 2019 – 2020 season.

Producer Eva Price announced today that the reimagined revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! will launch its North American tour at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the Fall of 2020. The 2020 tour will mark the first time a First Class Equity production of Oklahoma! has toured North America in 40 years.

In 10th Grade, I was in the chorus of a production of Oklahoma! in the auditorium of my synagogue and it was the best theatrical experience I've ever had. I remember getting home from the closing night cast party and crying myself to sleep. I could cry now putting on the movie or listening to 'The Farmer and the Cowman,' or maybe most of all, if I sing a little bit of the introduction to the title song.

Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLaine and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancee, Ado Annie.

Ninety years ago on June 29, 1931, Westport Country Playhouse opened its doors to its very first stage production. This year, on the exact same day, the Playhouse will mark its 90th anniversary with the opening of the virtual production, “Tiny House,” written by Michael Gotch, and directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director. According to Deadline, the incoming revival just announced that it will join Hollywood's Gun Neutral Initiative, pledging that for every visible gun onstage during the show, a donation will be made to help solve gun violence.
