Grease was first staged in 1971, with music, lyrics, and a book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It had its debut on Broadway in 1972 until it was eventually adapted into a movie starring John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John in 1978. This play and its consequent movie were a cultural icon, with songs that persist through time and are deeply rooted in modern pop culture. And for the first time, in 2025, it was performed in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I had a great time attending Desert Theatreworks' terrific production of Agatha Christie's THE MOUSETRAP. I am unsurprised that the directing, acting, and technical aspects of the show are fabulous -- that is DTW's modus operandi. The script leaves the audience guessing and laughing. This production is top-notch.

Anthony Roth Costanzo is taking a break from rehearsing Handel's RHODELINDA at the Metropolitan Opera. He has a few minutes to talk about singing countertenor both in opera and in popular music. 'Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi all wrote for countertenor - they were composing for castrati.' Fortunately the creation of castrati ended, but, alas, so did composing for countertenor. 'All the roles are before 1750 and after 1950.'
