The story of a real-life love affair between two Yorkshire miners is coming off-Broadway at the Davenport theatre 4th-9th september and being made into a film in co-production with human element film. Once a Year on Blackpool Sands is written by Karlton Parris and presented by Manchester-based theatre company Skint Productions. Set in Blackpool 1953, before homosexuality was legal in the UK, this real-life gritty Northern LGBTQ comedy focuses on Eddy and Tommy, as they head to Blackpool for their annual wakes week holiday. The lads check into the surprisingly empty Withering Heights on Sea guest house, run by the caustic and alarmingly odd Gladys, her rebellious and very flirty daughter Maureen and the infamous Red Ethel, ex-communist stripper show girl. Upstairs the only other guest Mr Elbridge is trying to muster the courage to unleash any of his three female alter egos and walk the fabled transvestite walk from north to south pier as a woman.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. The Old Globe will present a free, one-night-only event to celebrate the debut of a new book by legendary Globe Associate Artist Marion Ross titled My Days Happy and Otherwise. This evening of storytelling with Ms. Ross and Associate Artistic Director Eric Keen-Louie will take place on Monday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m., on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage of the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. My Days Happy and Otherwise, by Ms. Ross with David Laurell, and a foreword by Ron Howard, will be available for purchase after the event, and Ms. Ross will be available to sign copies.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History recently received a donation from the family of actress Jean Stapleton (1923-2013) that showcases her career. The objects range from the apron she wore while playing Edith Bunker in All in the Family, a crew jacket from the set of All in the Family, a selection of the awards that she won throughout her career, costumes and props from her career in theater and TV, memorabilia related to her work as a women's rights activist and papers reflecting her dedication Eleanor Roosevelt's legacy.

Saturday Night runs from March 28 - April 15, 2018 and will perform at the Gateway Theatre (formerly the Eureka Theatre). Creative Director of Skint Productions Karlton Parris announced in Manchester today that his new LGBTQ comedy drama has been adapted for film in co-production with Human Element Productions. Shooting commences in the county of Yorkshire, then Blackpool and London right after the play ends its limited run at the Davenport Theatre.
