Once A Year On Blackpool Sands to Receive Film Adaptation

Off-Broadway bound and UK touring Once a Year on Blackpool Sands will now be heading to the big screen! Creative Director of Skint Productions Karlton Parris announced in Manchester today that his new LGBTQ comedy drama has been adapted for film in co-production with Human Element Productions. Shooting commences in the county of Yorkshire, then Blackpool and London right after the play ends its limited run at the Davenport Theatre.

Once a Year on Blackpool Sands leading men Kyle Brookes and Macaualy Cooper will reprise their roles as real life 1950s gay lovers in the film, as will the other cast members Wendy Laurence, James Linda Clark ,Mollie Jones, and Dominic McCavish.

Kyle added, "As a young actor I want to give justice to this character. Eddy lived through a very dark time in LGBTQ history. He was a Yorkshire miner from a small town which makes his story remarkably brave. From the work i have done so far with writer Karlton Parris who knew him, Eddy was a complex damaged soul who as a child suffered terribly at the hands of his abusive father who tried to beat the queer out of him. To me he is a true northern hero.

Macaualy commented, "We have to capture that fighting spirit. These lads were just ordinary working class folk who somehow managed to do something very brave against all the odds. There was more than a few beer bottles thrown at them that night and yet that night in Blackpool was equally full of laughter, despite the fear."

Set in Blackpool 1953 Not long After the Coronation, This Real-Life True Story is packed with Gritty Northern Comedy coupled with a Heart Breaking Emotional Punch. As Yorkshire Miners and secret lovers Eddy and Tommy Head to Blackpool with most of their Town for the annual Pit Close wakes holiday. However, Eddy had almost missed the bus and turned up with no suitcase covered in cuts and bruises. Now the lads have checked into the surprisingly empty Withering Heights on Sea guest House Run by the Caustic and Alarmingly Odd Gladys her rebellious and very flirty daughter Maureen and the infamous Red Ethel ex-communist stripper show girl. Up Stairs the only other guest Mr. Elbridge is trying to muster the courage to unleash any of his three female alter egos and walk the fabled Transvestite walk from north to south pier as a Woman. As Events unfold both heartbreaking and hysterically funny Six Lives will be changed forever and as Eddy reveals a shocking truth it will lead to a lifetime of activism in the fight for equality and freedom For the LGBTQ community.
